If you had to choose between a black Breitling Aviastar and a brown one...
what would you choose?

I know that color is a personal choice, i want to also consider the demand factor of each and number produced, etc...

consider both to be in the same condition...near mint

Appreciate any *useful* advice
thanks

As far as I know, the black is more common, the brown is supposed to be quite rare.

Still, I'd go for the black one. Suits the watch better IMO.

That's exactly my thoughts as well. I can rarely recall seeing a brown one, most it seem are either blue or black. However I still think black looks best and that's what I would go for.

+1 from me. I don't think I've seen a brown Aviastar either.

@OP - If you have a pic, post one up and then we'll have a better idea if brown works for that model or not. I guess it also comes down to how many watches you have. If it was your only watch (which looking at your sales thread, I'm guessing it's not!), then black is nice and easy to wear in any occasion. If it's NOT your only watch then brown might be a nice change in your collection.

Hmmmmmm, that settles it for me. Black is the keeper IMHO. Brown (or havana!) is an odd colour as it really suits some watches, and really doesn't others.

I'm a big fan of havana / bronze / brown, but agree with others - black for me on this one.

Well, if you are looking more towards the rarity of the watch, I'd say the brown. It's the first I've seen in that color.
I think the black is more aesthetically attractive...
I've seen a blue one before which was pretty cool.
Ahhh, just get both!

As I am wearing a black one today, I'd have to vote for that. I also have a havana dial NOS but I really don't care for that color so it will just remain an unused part.

Thanks,
Any idea of how many of each collor were actually produced?
I am trying to skinny down my collection to models that are unique and/or special in some way.
I dont need one of each color (do I  )

i have not seen many blues

also, any idea on the value of one in NOS condition?

2 on eBay at the mo. Black is £1695, brown is £1995.

Which confirms what I was going to say. Black is the better looking watch to wear but brown is the better watch to keep for investment purposes.

Depends what you want it for.
