For the benefit of those not on the Breitling mailing list...

1962. The space race was well under way. Already a supplier to civilian and military aviation, Breitling naturally took a keen interest in this new human adventure. Based on the Navitimer chronograph, the brand’s technicians developed the Cosmonaute, a space-going version of this instrument indicating the daily 24 hours in a single sweep of the dial. Given the extremely relative nature of day and night in space, this configuration prevents possible confusion between midday and midnight. On May 24th 1962, the astronaut Scott Carpenter tested this instrument under real-life conditions during his orbital flight aboard the Aurora 7 capsule.

For its 125th anniversary, Breitling has chosen to issue a limited series of the model that became the first wrist chronograph to experience space travel. Only 1,000 of these Cosmonaute watches will be produced, all equipped for the occasion with an original version of the intriguing 24-hour dial. Further accentuating its distinctive character and in tribute to a modern design icon from the 1960s, the Cosmonaute Limited Edition is fitted exclusively with the rigid perforated Air Racer bracelet.

Didn't get that e-mail yet.

It's nice to see that at a time when Breitling seems to be turning its back on tradition in so many other pieces that they actually embrace it here with a watch that celebrates some of the history with the original dial. It's not different enough for me to consider as I already have the DB Cossie and with no mention of the movement I assume that this isn't a tricompax version of the B01, but I do like this.

Still not a fan of the bracelet though.

Hi All!

Very Nice Indeed! As For The Bracelet - Dunno!

I Too Tried To Cut & Paste The E-Mail From Breitling Very Early This Morning But It Would Not Take The Images Of The Watch - What Was I Doing Wrong?

Best Regards,

Enezdez

I'm sure many will like it but not for me. Most Breitlings I don't find too busy, this one I do. That was after getting past the bracelet. :x

I think that is a great looking piece. I like the fact that is a smaller run, only 1000 pieces are there any other dial colors available?

I agree on all counts, Roffensian. Reminds me I should start wearing the DB after getting it back from overhaul service.

+1 from me too. Like it a lot, but still hate the bracelet. But I won't be buying one as it's not got a B01 variant movement.

Busy is the word, but I like it. Dumb question I'm sure, but what exactly is the purpose of the 24 markings. Is there a 24hr hand similar to the world??? Don't get it.
cheers

The Cosmo was designed for the space program. When you are orbiting the earth every 90 minutes and the hour hand is on the number two, you don't know if it's 2 AM or 2 PM. That's the reason for the 24 hour dial. I wear a cosmo when I fly. It's easier filing flight plans when you can see the 24 hour clock.

Very cool - takes the black/silver contrast thing to a new level. It would be a contender for gratuitous credit card abuse if it had a 45mm diameter.

I really like the look of the bracelet, but I'm not sure how it would wear...

I would have to see the bracelet in person before I could make any comment. Pictures aren't always the best way to judge. I like the watch itself though. I am a big fan of the navitimer bracelet on the world as well as other models so we will see....
