I simply meant that the design of the Marine is something that I think is better appreciated by someone a little older. I find the design to be a little more subtle and I'm not sure that a 39mm watch where the value is in the movement, guilloche detail etc is something that will appeal to a 14 year old - more a 40 year old.

Actually, I am attracted to movements, especially tourbillions (wayyyyy too out of my price range, sadly :( ). The guilloche of the marine watch was actually pretty nice, I liked that one a lot, but your'e right on that, other guilloches don't really appeal to me. In fact, I hated it except that last one! Anyways, I guess it sorta hit me that until talkin to you guys, I've been thinking about buying a watch over actually wearing one. Cause most of you guys agree these watches are fantastic, but, honestly, I doubt they'd look terrible on me! I'm like 20 years off, maybe even 30. And since the purpose is to wear a watch, not "watch" it, I really have to go with ones that'd match my age.

How would Zenith fare? Think that'd be ok for me? I looked at their models, and imo, idk if anyone would agree, but it seems like their watches are like a mix between classy and sport. THey have the face of a classic watch, but then it has all the extra things to it, if I remember correctly...

What Zenith range are you thinking - there's a big difference between the Academy and the Defy Extreme ranges.

Haha ya, I was just lookin it up cause I knew it ranged a bit. I was thinking, maybe, the chronomaster el primero? The size isn't too bad. I was looking at 43 mm MAX like thats a little pushing it because my wrist isnt that thick.

I think that the Chronomasters are very nice. They are fairly dressy, but the opens have a more sporty look to them and they are fairly unique. They are also going to give you more for your money than Breguet.

I've always liked the Breguet XXI (as I said earlier).. and in fact - I think I might just get one.

Entry level or not, its a stunning watch IMO.

Ya, that is one amazing watch! I could probably wear that, it doesn't look classy, good for young people like me. If i pay the hefty price...

Ok, well I figured the Breguet watches I liked were out of my price range. So what do you guys think of this watch?

http://www.zenith-watches.com/img/4_new ... g_32_1.jpg

takes a while to load. (worth it though!)

I just wanted to know if you guys thought it'd be suitable, or more suitable, for me, a 14 year old kid. Personally, I like it a lot, but it has to look right.

Too classy for a teen? Good? etc.

I prefer the version with the date. The T size wouldn't be too large for you.

I guess it's a long time since I was 14, I just have a tough time reconciling a watch like this with the activities of a 14 year old - it's not so much the look, more the practicality.

You guys don't have to read this if you don't wanna....

Ok, well, to keep my life short, I'm not really the jock type (football, lacrosse, etc.), I do play tennis though, which is my only sport. I also play cello, been in numerous orchestras. And yes, a watch pretty much just tells time, but whats the difference in buying a watch that tells time today, and buying a watch that tells time in 10 years? (yes, maybe my age comes into play, but it's something I really would set out to do (earning the money to get one)). I'm a very business oriented kid and that's what I want to get into in the future. Recently I've gone through tough times (death of a family member) and life really seems short. i had a project for school and I came across this quote:

A man who dares to waste one hour of time has not discovered the value of life.
-Charles Darwin

I mean I guess it's pretty cheesy to say I need a watch to know how not to waste time, but quite honestly, time plays a huge role in everything.

Ya, loads of people think I'm crazy: "A 10k watch and your how old????" But it's kinda like what people say when actually buying watches: It's what you like about it, not what others think. (that's what you guys say when I ask if you think a watch is good or not!) So back to people thinking I'm crazy - I DON'T CARE! I love watches, it's bad to be materialistic and all at such a young age, but I can't help it. I haven't even owned one and I'm already hooked.

Sorry for the long post....(thanks for reading though!)

What the.. you're 14? jeebus dude... buy a Tag or something.

I'm assuming the olds are throwing some money at this (if not all), so perhaps take it easy to begin with.

If you think I'm just talking shit, buy the Breguet.

:yeahthat

Seriously though, at such a young age, my concerns would be that you would get plundered by some 20 year old and your watch would get stolen or it would get beat all to hell in high school. Why not start out with something a little lower end? Then you could work your way up to a nice one by college graduation time?

That's what I did anyways.

+1
BTW, I think that it's part of the fun to go gradually, one step at a time.
Of course if money's not an issue, then you can skip this, but I think that it's better to spend your own hard earned money on a watch like that (assuming that Jay's right). It just feels better. But that's just me, I'm not here to judge, I had a Swatch at 14. :)
