Hey guys,

About a month ago I purchased a breitling superavenger from an authorized dealer out in the caribbean. I usually wear the watch only on weekends so during the week movement stops. I usually turn the crown on the 3rd click to the correct time. . Today I did that and when I tried to adjust the date on 2nd turn, the "crown" would spin but the date would remain stuck it would not flip to the next date...I got annoyed and became furious (maybe its my lack of knowledge with watches) considering the money I spent on purchasing the one watch I wanted. I decided to manually rotate the time til it fell on the proper date. I left it alone for a little while and tried again and this time it worked. Later on, I tested it again and it didn't work, now its working.

Any idea what is up? Did I screw up the mechanical wheels or something? Sorry for the blabbering. I'll appreciate it if any input. Thanks

Did you try to adjust the date between 8PM and 2AM?

Could be a number of things, but my guess is that you have wound time backwards or used the quickset date between 8pm and 3am and damaged the wheels in the date change mechanism. That would explain why sometimes it works and sometimes doesn't.

There are also a number of potential problems in the keyless works, but the date change wheel is the most obvious - it'll need a trip to an AD to fix.

Because the date change mechanism moves in and out of the running train during that period so that the running train can power the date change itself. By winding time backwards you work against that motion and potentially strip gears as the date change mechanism can't move out of the way in time. By using the quick set date you are actually turning the date change wheel wile it's partially engaged with the running train and again strip gears.

It's usually the date wheel gears that bend or break.

There is a warning in the manual about not doing it.

:yeahthat

BTW, is it different for different models?
My manual says 2PM, not 3. Or did you recommend 3 based on experience, or just to be on the safe side?

I very much doubt that it says 2pm

I think pretty much all the current models say 8pm to 3am, but in truth it's usually 10pm - 2am but Breitling wants to provide a safety margin. The 'danger' period will vary from calibre to calibre (and actually it will be slightly different from watch to watch), but that 7 hours will cover all risk.

LOL, of course, it's 2AM, (at least for the B45 mov't), sorry for the typo.

Likely the same problem - it will need a trip to the AD and likely sending to Breitling.
