my first breitling was a b-2 43-44mm with around a 14mm thickness...which i thought was perfect for my wrist. i had a navi world at 46mm and 15.6mm and felt it was a bit too big for me.

looking at mark's skyracer on the bst i started to drool but found out the thickness is 16mm! is it because of the movement that the case is so thick? any veteran breitling enthusiast can explain? i also love the bentley mark vi but the thickness is over 16mm for a 42mm watch. i find i have more of a problem carrying a thicker watch than a bigger watch...if that makes sense. maybe it's time for a 2nd go round with the b-2

It's not exclusively movement related. Breitling rotors are relatively bulky, but nothing significant. A lot of it is down to the 'depth' of the dial - there is often quite a big gap between the bottom of the crystal and dial, and also Breitling's sapphire crtystals are pretty thick. They are also often cambered - not sure if that factors in to the depth measurements.

Finally, with many models having fairly high WR ratings there are caseback and case structure concerns to allow for the rating.

The movement does factor in on modular movements like the 2892-A2 based movements as they are designed as a simple time only movement with additional complications added as modules - which tends to result in a thicker movement than a movement that is designed as a chronoghraph from the outset.

Thick is good. It helps sell lots of Breitlings.
Question is: How thick can they go?
What is too much?
