Altair, it is so funny that you post this now.
I am planning on a new watch from a bonus which will be coming my way in November, I was looking around at the weekend and all the usual suspects looked good, then I got to thinking about Grand Seiko.
It really is worthwhile educating oneself to this brand. They make some of the finest watches in the world and quite frankly I think in many ways they actually surpasse by a country mile the Swiss in many respects.
A fact that may not be known is that Grand Seiko assigns one of it's master watchmakers the task to construct the entire watch by hand, they bring all the machined parts in then build it .
I know of few if any Swiss watches in the same price bracket that can claim the same!
The one that has caught my eye in the past few days is the new Hi Beat that is coming out next week, 36,000BPH and absolutely stunning build quality, all for the price of a submariner but with the quality of a high end Patek, yes, a High end Patek!
I actually love the fact that when worn most would think it was a seiko obtained from sears... Unless they looked closely!
I have seen a couple of GS's in the flesh now and quite frankly am astounded at the quality of them!
Here are a couple of links to the one I am on about, both in Japanese one a blog with pictures and the other a video of the 36000 movement in action...A thing of beauty!
