We need an ad or catalog

I know what you are saying Bill, I've had a quick look through some of my stuff but haven't found anything for this model.
I guess like so much else it may be more a matter of reading the tea leaves.

Going back to the 1969 catalogue, while it does not talk specifically about the 7650, it does say that the other two can be offered in a variety of configurations. So presumably you would order the yachting dial and handset as a special order. It may be this configuration was never advertised as it was made only to order.

The closest thing I've found is a description of the bezel.

So I think it's fair to say that this is a the correct bezel for a yachting timer.

taking into account that two are the same watch (1278802)

Well spotted, missed that completely. Okay, if we rule that one out we now have seven unique examples of the watch, except for the one you show all the others, IMHO, show the same dial and the same style of hands (although the colours are different across some of them), given that and the fact that these style of hands are used on the smaller cased chrono-matics, Top-Times, Datoras, etc shown in the 1969 catalogue, I think I would be happy to say that this is an acceptable and consistent known configuration for this watch.

Like you say the case numbers are in a tight grouping and given what appears to be this odd "by hand" engraving across a number of the watches this raises more interesting question marks for me. It would be interesting to see if anyone has the regular 7650 they could show and see how the case is marked on that.

chefcharlie2480 - do you have a back shot of your one?

I stumbled upon this thread that was posted a few weeks and decide to toss mine into the mix also...

Image

I was told (from Mark Heist) that the black bezels were original, silver one seem to be replacements. I think there was a question about the 1765, but I think that one has the 24 hour dial. The hands are a bit faded on mine, but I want to leave them alone. If anything I may paint them orange again someday. I believe it was normal practice for a repairman to replace the hands and bezel when performing service on these. That may be why you see them with white hands and silver bezels.

Cheers,
Ron

Thanks. It's interesting, I read somewhere that the Co-Pilot watches were more expensive than the Navitimer's when they were originally made. I can see the price range of the ones that were on the documentation in the post above and was really surprised! I wonder if anyone has any info on what a Cosmonaute went for in those days?

Speaking of which, here is my 809 (if I remember correctly, this one was from 1966):

The 1969 Breitling catalog has the prices, page 5 here;

http://www.breitlingsource.com/books_1969.shtml

My 1966 Wakmann catalog shows the following prices:

Steel Navitimer - $200
Gilt top Navitimer - $240
18K Gold Navitimer - $400
Steel Astrotimer (Cosmonaute) - $240
Gilt top Astrotimer - $270
Copilot - $200
Superocean - $220
Unitime - $150

Wouldn't you have liked to stash a few Unitime's away at that price. Would have been better than an IRA. :D

Hey Noodia!

It was my pleasure to work on your valuable Co-Pilot 7650.

I must confess I started to appreciate this Breitling very very much after I worked on yours!!! If the case needs a retouch regarding the brushed finish on the lugs...my offer still stands!

Take care,
Abcoro.
