I purchased an orbiter bellino and I am about to put my BO1 on it. question is - is 800 the right setting and can someone tell me the difference in terms of whether or not I need to set it to clockwise or counter clockwise settings- in effect what Im asking is does which way you set impact the watch in any way.

B01 winds in both directions - http://www.breitlingsource.com/watch_de ... r_195.html

I haven't seen numbers published about tpd and it's not in the Orbita database yet, but I would guess that 650 - 800 is about right. 800 won't hurt it, that's for sure.

I think you need a separate programming module to change the default settings on an Underwood. Factory settings are both directions so won't provide enough tpd for a CW only SA.

I know there has been alot of talk about watch winders and which model. That having been said, Im looking for the best/least expensive winder for my Super Avenger. I know it is 800 TPD and needs to wind clockwise. Was also looking to get something with some delay, giving the spring some time to wind down.

I searched but didnt really see any paticular recomendations for exactly what Im looking for. I called Wolf Designs, and the lady recomended the 2.7 winders. I'd like to find something a bit cheaper, saw a Wolf 3.0 on craigslist but really would like some input first. Thanks, hopefully I didn't hijack this thread!

Take a look at Brookstone Winders, I just bought their Quad winder and it's awesome. It's very quiet, built very solid, and has 18 settings for each motor. I believe they sell them in a single, double, and quad.

I looked at there web page and maybe you know, does it have any rest time to allow the spring to wind down? Looking at the owners manuel online it looked like it is in constant motion, or only brief rests depending on TPD?

Official Time Van Gogh.

I have a 6 way in Silver Grey. Can be had much cheaper on eBay than in their official shop. I paid less than £300 GBP for mine if I remember. Not bad to independently wind 6 watches.

Depending on the TPD setting you choose it will rest anywhere from 60 seconds to 120 seconds. It's not constant motion. What I love about it is that when finished winding all of the watches end in the same vertical position which looks very clean. How much time are you looking for to let the spring unwind?

I have found that orbita's TPD recommendations aren't always correct. If their site calls for 650 TPD I always bump that up at least to the next highest TPD setting.

That's hardly a rest period. You aren't going to see the mainspring wind down in 2 minutes on a 42 hour power reserve!

I would be looking for a much longer rest period than that.

How long should it rest? Also, what is the purpose of letting the spring unwind?

I would be looking for at least 30 minutes, and some will have rest periods up to 5 hours or so.

If there isn't a rest period then the mainspring is constantly maintained at full tension which can shorten service periods, increase service costs (can damage the slip mechanism in the mainspring barrel) and affect accuracy.

The Brookstone winders are setup differently, they wind one full rotation, then stop for 90 seconds, then another full rotation, then stops for 90 seconds.. and so on and so forth. If it's setup for clockwise & counter-clockwise movement then it will wind one full rotation clockwise, stop for 90 seconds, then one full rotation counter-clockwise. A full rotation only takes 8 seconds.

Is this bad for the watch?

Other winders that I've owned would wind the watches continuously for about 5 minutes then stop for a half hour then begin winding again.

If it's only stopping for 90 seconds then there is no rest period. I'll take 5 minutes on / 30 minutes off every time.

I looked at the "Official Time" site, but didnt see much about the various settings. What do you think Roff, anything that you recomend "good bang for the buck" that will let the spring unwind? Again, Im thinking on the cheaper side vs expensive?
