Breitling is independently owned by the Schneider family who purchased the name from Willy Breitling in 1979.

There was a brief discussion of some of the early history on here last year - not sure if that's any help or not.

It may also be worth laying your hands on the 2009 Chronolog as it has quite a bit of information about the history of the company. May be some use.
