Ive been wondering about the ever growing Fake watch market. Do fake Breitlings come with the same paperwork that the real ones come with (international warranty, COSC, etc etc)? Reason I ask is because whenever i do a search on the Bay and see something suspicious but it has paperwork it leaves me wondering if they duplicate the same paperwork to the tee or if they are simply taking it from another watch and making a set.

Anyone know if fakes come with legit looking paperwork and breitling boxes?

This is out of curiosity because i have been watching some items and I know that you should stay awafrom Ebay but sometimes i think there are good deals to be made on used watches.

I've only ever seen the crappy fake wooden boxes that are nothing like genuine bakerlite.

Not seen any paperwork as yet, no doubt someone has tried Perhaps those with more experience have seen some. I'd like to see an examplpe if they have

The is a fake "Crosswind Special" manual floating around. You'll often see listings on ebay where a different watch will come with that manual.

Anyone else have any info on this?

Generally speaking, they dont come with paperwork, and if they do, the numbers probably wont match the watch. I havent seen any quality fake papers.

So in theory a watch that has legit looking paper work with matching numbers generally means the watch is authentic?

Caveat emptor. This is why ADs exist. If you are looking for a "good deal" on a watch, be prepared. As is said in this forum time and time again, buy the seller, not the watch..... Good luck. The "experts" here (especially Roff) are great at finding fakes!

Generally speaking yes. BUT, you have to remember that some bottom-feeding fake producers will engrave a specific number by request on a fake watch. So that means if someone "gets lucky" and buys a genuine box and papers from eBay, they could conceivably have a fake watch engraved to match the numbers. It'd be quite a rarity for that to happen, but it COULD happen (and no doubt already has to a few unfortunate souls).

Main reason I ask is because I would never buy a Breitling from Ebay unless it had box and papers. I dont know why anyone would just buy a piece by it self and not want the warranty etc.

Well everyone is different, and some people may be more bothered about paying the lowest possible price..... in which case, a watch without box or papers will fit the bill. Likewise if someone wants a watch just as a beater, the paperwork etc is of less importance. Additionally if a watch is used, it may be out of warranty alraedy, in which case the paperwork only serves to confirm the watch's provenance...... and again some people are quite happy to forego that in order to save some cash.

If you know what you are doing, there are some amazingly good deals on watches without paperwork out there. Of course resale value will be equally low, but like I say it depends what you are buying a watch for.

Personally I'm a stickler for everything being in place, but I can also understand why others may take a more relaxed view on their watch purchases at times.

I can't take that credit. Sharky and bnewbie among many others have been finding them for literally years now - I am completely in their shadow when it comes to fakes.

On eBay generally, I buy from there because some of the pieces I look for aren't available elsewhere - just be educated or leverage experts who are.

Personally, when I bought mine I knew it would be my first and only (for a while at least). For that reason, I went to an AD. I still got a pretty good deal, but I know my watch was new and genuine and I'm happier with it for that reason. Buying my watch was a big deal for me and I wanted to look at it and know it was perfect in every way. It might be just because I was losing my Breitling virginity and I might not be so keen on it being 'special' next time, but I don't think my watch would make me so happy when I look at it if I bought it off the interwebs.

Also, my AD said they'd clean or adjust it free of charge whenever I want. I got impeccable service from them and for that reason I'm sure I'll go back for my next purchase. They won my loyalty and trust.

eBay are getting too good at reacting to me and they've pulled the auction within an hour of reporting it so I can't grab the photo of the paperwork! Box was the usual yellow fake with much too small Breitling letters, standard black Bakelite inner box and Crosswind Special manual. Difference with this listing was a COSC certificate where the serials matched. Thankfully, the serial was the known fake serial so easy to spot but if it was one of the new replicas with individual serials, it could be very dangerous.

If you know the flaws to look for on the watch, that is always better than trusting a piece of paper. Post the link to any eBay listings you're interested in in the replica forum and we'll take a look for you.
