I first wanted a Breitling many years ago when I saw the steel/gold bracelet, blue face/gold dials chronomat in a jeweller's shop window as a student. Fast forward a few years and I picked up my first Windrider Shadow Flyback with blue face and dials.

The watch felt large compared to my previous Tag Heuer and had many encounters catching against doorframes and other people's arms/sweaters. It became my everyday watch and went everywhere with me. Operation has been flawless and you can see that the bracelet is well worn. The blue face has a wonderful sheen to it.

A few years later I caught a glimpse of a B2, blue face and dials. It was an great looking watch due to the incredibly detailed and busy face. My personal taste is towards the more technical looking Breitlings with a good sized bezel (Navitimers/Bentleys bezels are too thin for my tastes at this stage). I regret not making the purchase there and then as it was a few years later that I decided to try hunt one down. Unfortunately, the B2 was out of production, but I spied upon the Skyracer. This also had the busy technical looking face, although it has two dials instead of the three found on the B2. I spent a lot of time deliberating between the grey and blue face. Eventually plumped for the blue face.

Could have been my mood that day or the lighting in the jeweller's shop. Could have easily gone with either and almost considered getting both.

In some ways I feel that getting the blue face felt too similar to my previous shadow flyback. But on the other hand, I felt that it made up for missing out on that B2 when I had the chance a few years earlier. The Skyracer was so much bigger than my shadow flyback yet retained a high level of comfort. The watch face is a delight to look at. The Skyracer felt good, but I made the fatal mistake of trying out many different Breitlings at the store at the time. That sowed the seed for another watch...

A few days later I passed a store and was bowled over by the size of the Super Avenger. I tried it at the store and to my surprise it fitted well. Initially, I thought that the size would be too large as I don't have particularly large wrists. However, the solid chunkiness of the watch oozed character and appeal. I considered going for a blue face and dials again. After sitting on the thought for a day or so, I decided to go for the white face and batons in order to get a watch that looked truely different to my others.

This is a solid watch and incredibly well engineered. It's not for everyone, but to me it shouts out loud 'Breitling!'.

When I line up all three watches, it is amusing to see how the Shadow Flyback is dwarfed by the Super Avenger. Only a Chrono-Mat 49 or a Bentley will make the Super Avenger feel small! I still have space for a watch with a grey face in my collection and may revisit at a later date. I've looked at other watch brands, but still go back to appreciating the Breitling style and designs.

For the moment, I've satisfied my Breitling cravings. Gonna have to stay away from these stores as those shiny lumps of metal are just too tempting.

This forum is great but it does not make me want another Breitling any less. I remember when I got my CSO 2 years ago, i got my AS two months later. Then got my Chronomat 5 months later. This addiction progresses quickly

Very nice collection. I've always liked the Skyracer. And that SA white dial with Batons is beautiful! I just wish the SA wasn't so big...I like my watch on the bigger side, but 46 seems to be my max.
Thanks for sharing! :lingsrock:
