Well the other day after reading through the many posts about winders, I decided that I wanted one. My reasons are mainly due to me being lazy, I like to be able to pick up a watch and go, I also like to swap and change between day and night at the drop of a hat. Should have bought a quartz really (OK, I jest!). I know some people are firm believers for and against, but I thought it would be worth a go anyway.
I saw the winder in question on the Bay, was a good price as I've seen it on some stores for double the price. Runs off batteries as well as mains, and looked good. I didn't see any point in spending hundreds and hundreds on it, I'd rather buy another watch, but this price suited me fine. It finally appeared this morning, and so far I am very happy. It looks good, runs very quietly (so far anyway!) and fit my 4 watches in with a tiny bit of room to spare.

I knew before that it held an extra 6 watch holders in the base, and had come up with a cunning plan. I have a fairly decent collection of cufflinks, and end up keeping them in a drawer in a links box, but this has become full. I could remove the cushions, get some foam, and keep them in there. Now bear with me here chaps, I know it sounds very Blue Peter, but I thought it would have to be worth a look. So off I wandered to my local upholsterer, who gave me some foam, plus some thin black faux leather to cover them with. After a little bit of gluing, and a few slashes with a fine knife blade, I came up with something which looks entirely believable as original. I am very happy with the outcome. All in all I am quite happy with what I have got, only time will tell what it's reliability is like.

So after all of my ramblings, I thought I would add a quick pic of the rest of my modest collection of bits and bobs, please excuse the Omega wallet and links, they're gifts from my wonderful better half!

Thanks for the mini-review Ash. And I really like your Blue Peter work too! (Although I think for it to be proper Blue Peter you need to doublesided sticky-tape and old egg boxes! )

The slighter cheaper watch winders have come on in leaps and bounds over the last few years : I use an Official Time Van Gogh that came in at probably half the price of a comparable unit by one of the big manufacturers. And the good thing with buying cheaper ones is that if they go wrong you can just replace them rather than faffing about getting it repaired.

It's a nice looking winder you have there, although I must be honest, twin cups always worry me how close the watches are to each other. But if they're not touching I'd say you've got a very nice unit there.

And the DIY pads look great too!

Not familiar with term "Blue Peter" but I think I get the point, and I must say, looks like you did an excellent job!

It's a particularly unique kids TV show in England - difficult to explain unless you have experienced it, but it's an integral part of the childhood of anyone growing up in the 70s and 80s (not sure whether it's as relevant now).
