Well, I guess late is better than never right?
I've been hanging around over here for a while now, asking questions and picking brains. I've always been interested in clocks and watches...I love the mechanics of it all and the aesthetics of the designs. Something about how all those tiny moving parts have to work in such a precise manner to keep accurate time that we all hold so important to maintain order in our lives. It kind of reminds me of the human heart in that way. One small delay or skip, and things don't turn out so good! It probably has something to do with why I ended up fitting artificial limbs for a living  !
I've slowly been able to appreciate the quality of watches as my collection grows and changes. There is definately a draw for me towards the Breitling pieces, and not that I am a pilot or necessarily use all of the great functions they offer, but the quality, craftsmenship, and designs seem to represent what I feel a mens watch should.
Watches to me are a very masculine thing. I've always felt like I was missing something if I ever forgot my watch at home when I was younger...These days, even more so. Wearing a favorite watch makes me feel good...silly how someone can get so much enjoyment from such a small superficial thing...But I guess this is what some women feel like in a nice pair of shoes, hand bag, earings etc...
My first (what I considered was expensive) watch was an Invicta Prodiver..which at that time was expensive...anything over a few hundred dollars was unthinkable. Then I bought a Movado Tungsten Fiero, which I always admired in the stores...and it was my first second hand watch. The I moved on and bought a Hamilton X-Wind, which I still believe today is a greatly underappreciated piece. The more I learned about movements and the inner workings of watches, the more I began to get interested in hand wind pieces and auto's. I had a hand wind made by Davidsen and it is still a favorite piece of mine.
My first and only Breitling currently is a grey dialed Hercules, which is a fantastic watch. Ever since getting the Herc, I've fallen in love with the BlackBird, Skyracer, Crosswind Special NaviWorld and my current desire is for the Skyland.
I'll be around here for a while I'm sure, picking more brains and hopefully being somewhat of a contributing member.
I'll say thanks in advance to everyone, as I'm sure eventually, someone will get a question from me!
That's my ramblings....
Chris
