It looks like I fell off the wagon.

In my mind, my Breitling habit had gotten a little silly. I had a pretty long list compiled of all the B's I would like to own. When I added it all up, the number was just dumb -- but I was really starting to justify the expense in my head. So I just ran away. I haven't posted in about a year. But I've been lurking now for about the last month, and finally decided to jump back in.

It turns out I miss you guys -- especially my fellow Coral Club founding father, the good doctor from Scotland.

So...I work a little bit on the side. I've got some discretionary money burning a hole in my pocket. I am the proud owner of a black dial Avenger Skyland and a coral dial Superocean but I feel as though it's time a white dial, and it's time for me to move into Bentley line.

Here is my dilemna. I fell in love with a white-dial (Artica) Bentley GT Racing at my AD. However, it seems like a pretty expensive wrapper for the Valjoux/ETA 7750 movement. I could get two different Chrono SuperOceans with functionally the same movement/presentation for the price of one GT Racing. However, I just love it. I love the color of the dial, I love the polished and brushed bracelet -- everything about it. Now once I accepted that I may own a Bentley series, I started digging around. And wouldn't you know it, I also fell in love with the white-dial Mark VI. And I mean*really* fell in love. The problem is, I've never seen one in person. If any of you own one, or have seen one, I would really appreciate any input. My perception is that the Mark VI is the better "value" because the movement is more interesting, and the dial is more unusual. But never having seen one, I'm not sure. I'm not sure how to compare the two.

Am I trying to apply rational thought to something as irrational as picking out a piece of jewelry? Does it make sense to introduce my perception of value into the equation or not? I'm really stuck here. I don't know how to evaluate the two against one another.

I'm sure you all (ya'll as we say here in Virginia) will provide some insight. I look forward to hearing from you, and I apologize for being a stranger.

:welcome: back Cowbell!!! I have yet to see a white Mark VI, but I can assure you that the white GT is quite stunning in person. Sorry for not being much help haha. But im sure others will be on to voice their insight.

Welcome back!

I know almost nothing about the Mk VI, sorry, but as for the value comparison between the GT Racing and two CSOs, the first thing that occurred to me when I read your post was that the answer might have something to do with one of the words you used: jewelry. The aesthetics of the 'wrapper' are critical, never mind if something else has the same mechanical operation. My IWC, for example, comes in a gold version which is more than 3 times the price of my steel version - same watch internally, but it exists for a reason and it sells.

Just a thought, anyhow. Probably doesn't help you much if what you're really after is views on the Mk VI, but if you need help justifying the GTR then I'm happy to assist. :D

Welcome Back Cowbell!!

I have seen the Mark VI in person and its real nice. Smaller than most of the Bentleys. Very dressy and the white would look fantastic on a brown Croco.

If i had to choose between the two, I would definately take the Mark VI.. it is an amazing watch.. something about it just stands out to me, and the photos really don't do it justice - but you already know that since you tried it on :)

Welcome back! Funny enough, I've been re-reading some of your old posts recently. I'm really no help regarding the Bentleys you asked for, sorry, and I suppose you don't have a BFB dealer nearby (as you then would have tried there). Hope someone else may show a pic of the Mark VI.

I think that the 19 is a very underappreciated piece - I looked very carefully at it before deciding that the dial was just a little too similar to my Montbrillant Legende - so I bought the Mark VI Complications 19 instead

It would be the Mark VI for me every time over the GT - but that's just me.

Well, well, well.... More Cowbell is back in the fray! Welcome back.

My personal choice would be the Mark VI out of that or the GT. The dial layout is a little less "ordinary" and I've always had a slight dislike of day/date windows on watches, so that puts a bit of a downer on the GT for me.
