What is the function of the 9-oclock subdial? 2nd time zone?

Yes, it's "military time".

But can it be set independently or is the time always linked to the central hands? (In the pictures, the subdial matches the central hands).

Never handled a Herc but I think that they are linked to the central hands, so afterall it might not have a 2nd time zone.
Hope that few owners on this board will shead some light on that.

I just bought a Herc from Mark (the Arizona gentleman) and, in all honestly, I don't really know how
this divine hero and son of Zeus works. I don't even know how to remove a couple of links  to actually wear this watch!
I will be heading to my AD later today and get everything sorted out :D

The 9:00 subdial is simply a 24hr display that is permanently linked to the main hour and minute hands, so it shows you the current time in a 24hr format and also tells you am or pm.

Removing links is easy, you need to remove two screws for each link. See pic.

Thanks for the info. It is a shame they did not let you set it independently, as it would have been the perfect pilot's watch then (UTC + Chronograph).

Also note that some jewelers will put a spot of Locktite on each screw. The idea is to make sure the screw never comes off. Of course, this is a problem if you want the screw to come off. In this case, steam will help loosen things up.

So true. Because this watch doesn't have a date, when you pull the crown out to the first click, it does nothing. They should have made it possible to set the 9:00 subdial to a different hour.

cuckoo4watches,

Nice watch, a friend of mine has had a Black dial Hercules since 2005. I always tell him he should get it polished but it's a great watch and I always liked the integrated bracelet.
