I wear hats all the time and I'm very particular about my stuff so when my Breitling hat arrived I emailed Breitling USA to ask for a spare. That way I could wear one and keep the other one in the box and never wear it.

They asked for the serial number and where it was purchased and within a week I had my extra hat. I offered to pay for it but it came in the mail before I got any response. Very impressive indeed.

FYI- I only have one Breitling Navitimer.

It seems a bit hit and miss at BUK, I was told they don't give anything away to their faithful public, I did manage to get a cap and a book from them, one thing for sure though, they are fab at sending out the Chronologs quick if you ask and also turn around times for warranty issues is quick too. My SA went back for regulation and was back in just over 1 week.

I really would prefer that they handle warranty issues quick than having a house full of freebies.

I've never understood the hype of getting a lot of additional stuff, and certainly not the action of emailing them "hey, I bought X numbers of watches, now I want free stuff". That's just petty.

Sure it's nice to be an appreciated customer, but if they don't send you things, is it the end of the world? I value my relation with my AD and our friendly discussions when I see him higher than a box of chocolate.

Agreed, customer service is always the priority, however, if they can achieve that and make you feel that they really do appreciate you as a customer by whatever means then it makes for happy bunnies all round!

If nothing was offered as a gift etc across the board then fine no problem, but it's this lottery of whether you get something or not that is annoying and it's a shame really because the stuff that Breitling do give away is really good quality. I have an Alpha Industries Breitling winter flight jacket (not a freebie!) and it's probably the best quality jacket I've owned!!

The chocolates I can leave, I'm fat enough already!!

The problem is, a Breitling sold in the US is the same as a Breitling sold in Europe, so why do I have to pay nearly the full prize when the customer in the US get a 25% or more discount plus some freebe's? I can have a wonderful releationship with my AD, but this is Breitling policy not AD's, he would like to give you a bigger discount but isn't allowed by Breitling.
I couldn't care less about a cap or chocolate, but if I pay more money than others I would like to get a better or at least equal treatment from Breitling!

As for the relationship: my AD is an older guy and we spend hours talking watches everytime I visit, get my watch cleaned up for free etc.

It's not the AD who sends out the additional stuff but Breitling USA, UK, SA or what ever.

Gifts are one thing, and I don't care much about them - not as much as most other people seem to do. I can agree that it's weird that different distributors act differently, but it doesn't bother me.

Discounts are something completely different. The huge variation in how to give discounts can upset me much more than differences in gifts. Both because some have to pay much more than others, and also because that difference will damage the brand. It might create some happy customers, but it also creates the strange image that in some countries a Breitling is more of a luxury watch than in other countries.

Couldn't say it better. I would like to get at least the Chronolog send every year as I might be a customer willing to buy more. Even this isn't possible, I'd to ask.

My AD told me he and several other AD's lobbied to get the Breitling bagpacks for their customers. It was impossible they said, only reserved for the UK and the States... So I bought 8 of them on the bay + a very nice and big suitholder. Makes a lovely travelkit.

For me, the freebie situation is just symptomatic of a disparity in treatment across the globe. As I said yesterday, the free stuff certainly isn't the be-all-and-end-all for me, but much like the discounts it just bugs me a bit that the world isn't a level playing field.

Very nicely put though Aleister about it "creating the strange image that in some countries a Breitling is more of a luxury watch than in other countries". I totally agree with you.
