I was talking to my wife about the service that Breitlings get. She was shocked at the price, then I showed her http://www.breitling.com/service-chrono/.

She asked how many on here actually service their watches....

I would say that the majority, here, will have Breitling service their watch. Now whether they (and me) do it at the 5-6 year recommended mark... .hmmmm I dont know. Personally, I probally wont. But my AD has several Breitling certified watchmakers on staff and I may have them go though at least me daily worn Steelfish after 5 or 6 years. The other watches dont get worn that much and I am less likely to worry about the regularity of a full service.

Having said that, eventually I will be sending them all (including future purchases) to Breitling USA for a full service, just not all at once! :)

I wouldnt even think of letting someone other than BUSA or a Breitling certified watchmaker crack open my watches.

Scott

To be honest, a good rule of thumb is to send your watch in for a service only when the timekeeping starts to go off. The mechanical tolerances are so small, and if things start to wear out, the first thing to go will be the timekeeping, so that's the quickest way you'll know that it needs a service.

The IWC catalogue actually RECOMMENDS that as the best way of knowing when a service is due............ although it does say that's likely to be around the 5 or 6 year mark.
