Well my friends, to quote Gollum, from Lord of the Rings….’the Precioussssssss is MINE’. Those of you who read my first post will know I’ve waited 45 years to get my hands on a ‘Ling and this morning it happened.
I visited my AD with the intention of choosing between a black face or slate grey Skyland. The salesperson I’d been negotiating the deal with was off sick and no-one could put their hands on either of the Skylands……Ooooops, I thought, disaster at the final hurdle. However, what should be gleaming at me from the display cabinet but a Blacksteel, Limited Edition Skyland. To cut a long story short, I bounced out of the shop with a LE BS Skyland, with a decent discount and a song in my heart. And, oh yes, the sun was shining brightly too………how righteous am I ??????

Attaching a couple of quick snaps of my Preciousssssss. I’ll try some better ones when time comes my way. Hope it works

Happy Christmas to you all

Nice pick up, but if you've waited 45 years then you should probably be fully aware of what you have.

What you have there is a LE Super Avenger Blacksteel, not an Avenger Skyland.

Either ways - congrats, 45 years is a long time to wait!

The BS SA is a wonderfull watch, but if I were you I would still consider picking up the SS Avenger Skyland. What number is your LE Blacksteel?

Thanks guys. Something in the back of my mind was telling me it was a tad large. I even double checked with the salesman and he looked at his dealer file and confirmed it was a Skyland. Damnation !!!! I'll have to give him a call tomorrow. That'll mean another 100 mile round trip and some time off work. I still didn't twig when he ordered a black croc deployment strap to go with it and it was 24mm when i knew full well the Skyland is 22mm from my Chronolog; i guess i thought perhaps they'd made the LE a bit chunkier. Nothing worth having ever comes easily, does it ???

Hi Nathan
The number on the back is 307/3000....M13370. I guess that's another clue.....didn't they do just [u]2000 Skylands??

It was indeed 2,000 Skylands. If you are hooked on the Blacksteel, you may have to take the SA, I doubt that your AD will have an AS left.

Yes, the blacksteel is nice and i have to say, when i saw it in the flesh, i was quite smitten but the more I look at it the more I realise the SA is just too bulky for my 'ladies' wrists'. i have to face it, I'm just a tad too 'wirey'. The Skyland will be just right for me, for sure. Maybe they'll have found the ones i was supposed to look at by tomorrow. Failing that, they did have the Navi World i wanted, with the tan croc deployment, which is to be my 'special' watch. I could take that tomorrow and make do with my TAG for day to day wear, until the Skyland materialises.....just gotta get my 'Ling before Christmas.

Breitling even mixed up the pictures of the BS AS and SA on their website when they launched the SA (have they corrected that?), so dont worry about not being able to tell which model you bought. ;)

Bezel and size aside they made them extremely similar.

Congratulations to a great watch whatever version you end up with!

The dial design is ridiculously similar.

Some red and the words Swiss Made are what I look for when flipping though pictures ;)

Fantastic pictures by the way.

If you got a smoking deal on the BS SA, you might give some thought to hanging on to it because of its Limited Edition status?

No matter what, it sounds like you are close to owning some very nice pieces!

Thanks a million for all your help and advice guys. I must admit I was feeling pretty foolish myself for having mixed it up and not heeded the little nags in my brain. However, all is well and my return visit to the AD bore fruit, for sure. I am now the desperately proud owner of an Avenger Skyland with Slate Grey face and steel bracelet. Wow!! what a classy piece it is too and just the right size for my puny wrist. It is most certainly more in keeping with my mature years and is PUUUUURRRRRFECT.
The original salesman was back and treated me superbly. He even has my Navi World ready with the tan croc deployment strap which looks a picture too. I hope to pick this up very early in the New Year. So I am indeed the most fortunate of men and can now communicate with my friends on The Source forum without feeling a bit of a fraud in the 'Lingless state within which I previously existed.
I'll post some pictures of my real Preciousssssss as soon as i get some better light but I just wanted you to know 'normal service has been resumed' in The Colonel's life...........I guess you were all out there fretting about my predicament
Thanks again for all your help and understanding.........'ava super festive period plus a peaceful, 'Lingful 2009.
