Well now I'm depressed.

Went to see the watches today, and discovered that a rumoured price increase on Zenith was in fact true. The Zenith distributor for North America is US based and the Canadian distributor therefore has to get the pieces from the US distributor in US dollars.

With the recent currency fluctuations the prices have increased to reflect a weaker Canadian dollar relative to the US dollar. The impact.....

Steel is up $3,000
Gold is up $7,400

Well I would take that as a sign. Obviously you NEED that LE Ling. I thought the steel looked better anyway. But what the heck do I know? I put screws in bones for a living! :?

But now I have less money to put towards the LE as well.

For what it's worth, the gold piece is absolutely incredible in person. It's a much deeper watch than I remembered, and the gold is a really heavy piece.

In some ways the price does make it easier to walk away from the gold - it's a ludicrous increase!

That's a ludicrous increase! it's bad enough on the steel (especially considering steel isn't exactly a rare metal!), but the gold increase is plain daft.

I say get the LE while you can, and get one of the Zenith's later. The LE might not be around for ever, and the Zeniths aren't limited.

But obviously only you can decide Roff. (Nice decision to have though! :) )

:yeahthat
Both zenith will be a round for a time, the LE may go and not return. Having spent a bit of time here and starting to appreciate your taste in timepieces I would gobble up any used LE you think you want when you find it as it will likely not become available again for some time. While again, new watches are still being produced (Zenith) and are therefore going to be easier to find when you want to pull the trigger. Welcome to my justification speach for buying whatever I want without delayed gratification, my wife will gladly relay the long version, from memory, if you are interested. Good luck Ling-Master!

Roff,

That gold Zenith is a work of art, subtle, elegant -- a source
of joy to cast your eyes on (not that Breitlings aren't! :? ) -- and
definitely an attention-getter by those in the know. That would
be my "grail" watch, but then, I'm a simple man.

Steve

I just read up this thread, but I'd follow Driver's advice if it was me. That price increase, with the current economic situation, is ridiculous. Get the LE and wait for the Zenith. Good luck!

(By the way, if you would be interested in another Zenith model, white gold, LE - just let me know. Mine is tucked away in a safety deposit and will be there for a long while... ;) )

Can I be a fly on the wall if you three (Aleister, Driver8 and Roffensian) meet and just whip out your collections (of watches -- no one still wants to see your pink chiffon D8)? That would be truly jaw dropping!!

That's kind of the way that I'm leaning right now to be honest. I'm really down about the Zenith because I've been waiting since April for one to become available, while the LE kind of landed, but the LE is probably the sensible option - though you guys might hate me

I'm also getting pricing from a US AD (thanks Justin) to see if that makes more sense, although obviously the exchange rate still has to be dealt with.

I have a couple of meetings in the next week with prospective new clients, so depending how that goes I may have a different perspective, but of course we all know about the economy right now.

Can't remember what Zenith you have aleister, and WG isn't my first choice, but I'm always open to offers - feel free to PM me. You can also give me the blue Chrono-matic 24 for Christmas if you would like

The other thing to bear in mind Roff is that if you go for the LE (which you should! ), you might fancy getting it serviced to give it that "new watch" look and performance. So that's a bit of cash that you might need to squirrel away just in case as well........

But obviously if you're new prospective client meetings go well, it'll be Zenith Zero G tourbillons all the way won't it?

Well the Zero G is rather nice, but I don't think I would buy one - the money it would cost would buy a lot of other watches!

You know, I am usually right there with you two on the desireability of most timepieces, but you TOTALLY lost me on that one. I realize it is a mechanical marvel and Aston-Martin expensive, but Eeewwww! :tard: IMHO not attractive at all. But I guess that is why they make more than 1 style, something for all!

The Defy Extreme Zero G is a little too...... well......... "extreme" for my taste, but the Defy Classic version is superb IMHO.

It's a marvel!!!
