Hello everybody,

First time poster, just come into the world of vintage as discovered a couple of vintage pieces abandoned in a drawer of a piece of furniture of my late father.
He wasn’t a watch enthusiast but I am a bit (even if till recently more on the recent pieces side) and am really surprised to have done this discovery.

I tried to wind it and surprisingly it works with a rather good precision. The stopwatch on the other hand doesn’t work. It’s the button for starting stopping, it looks like the spring isn’t tensioning it anymore. The other button works nicely.

Even if am totally not an expert, I believe the crown was replaced, not sure about the dial (If repainted they did a great effort with all those lines and so on).

Here are a couple of pics of the watch. I didn’t take any pic of the backside as it’a totally even.

I am sure you’ll be able to tell me a lot about the watch but am particular curious about the age, as this probably wasn’t even my fathers but my grandfathers instead.

Cheers,

I did some research on the internet and it looks like a Cadette. The shape of the buttons at 2 and 4, the parts of the movement, everything seems to tell that. The only thing that does not fit is the dial, I’ve probably seen hundreds of pictures of Cadettes and have never seen that dial.

Two items here are not clear to me:

1) there are no references nor pieces in the movement mentioning Breitling.
The Cadette was launched in 1933 and it looks like Breitling did not begin to use reference numbers on its timepieces untile late 40’s/early 50’s. This could explain the lack of signs inside.

2) the dial: here it could be a simple repaint but it’s really complicated dial and my (inexpert) eye can’t notice any misalignment nor spot any reason not to take it for good.

Nope. I didn’t take any pictures but it’s perfectly smooth.

then it isn't an original Breitling case (btw., case also lacks the "makers mark" all Swiss 18k cases have)

I noticed that some pictures showed two case backs, couldn’t be the case that one got lost?

Both my father and my grandfather were very simple people, it is high unlikely that they bought a fake (they would rather have not bought anything) or that they received a fake as a gift.

no, both serial and "makers mark" were always on the outer caseback (and there is only one, much later authentic double caseback model)
serial & marks MAY have been polished off, but no way to confirm that, of course

Thanks!
I will look again at it with more attention to the smallest details and post any further helpful picture I might be able to take.
