Hi all,

2 questions.
What is the name of the metal cover that covers the movement and is below the caseback as shown in the picture below? What’s its purpose? Is it bad if its missing?

Why is this top time movement “floating” in the case? (Second picture) Is there a name to the piece of metal that goes around the circumference of the movement and holds it in place? To me this movement seems unstable and free to move around.

Thank you!

In more modern watches the piece of metal around the movement is usually known as the movement spacer ring, and it is used (as you say) to help secure the movement into the case, but also to take up the room in larger cases between it and the typically much smaller movement. Not all companies use them - Rolex for example don't, as they make the cases to fit the movements directly so there's no need for movement spacers.

I don't know the official name of the "inner caseback cover" as it's not something you tend to see these days in modern watches. I've always seen them more often on pocket watches, and I always assumed they were just an additional layer of dust protection.

Thank you for your response. Would it be possible to find a movement spacer ring for a top time 815? Since it’s not secure, I feel that wearing the watch will cause it damage down the line. The watch is beautiful. This is the only issue I’m having with it and I’ve never encountered a missing movement spacer ring. Is it a big deal to the authenticity and integrity of the watch? I feel that it is:/

Interesting new development. The watch has this piece that slides on top of the movement and fills the gap. Is this usual?

I maybe should have posted the second half of this post in the breitling vintage section. My bad. Needed help with lingo initially.

Interesting. It seems like that cover acts as a movement spacer ring as well. I'm no vintage expert at all, so I'll move this thread into the vintage section for you.

Thank you.

I want to buy the watch and don’t want to lose it to someone else. But at the same time I’ll regret not knowing whether the watch i supposed to look like this.

Hopefully someone who knows about vintage will pitch in because my searches aren’t finding anything:/

Traditionally this plate is called a dust cover. I know in my military watch collecting it’s know this was used to shield the watch movement from electrical and/ or magnetic fields to make the watch antimagnetic, although in practice can’t see how that would actually happen.

The tall thing with the cutouts that slips inbetween the movement and case is a only a dust cover?

It slips inbetween the movement and case so it sort of acts like the movement spacer ring right?

I see now. That’s pretty cool. And I’m happy the movement isn’t unstable.

Is this dust cover authentic to top time 815? Its the first time im seeing it on one of these watches.

Seems wrong to me. No other top time has it and no other top time is missing the movement spacer ring.

I guess at some point they removed the movement spacer ring and replaced it with this dust cover.
Appreciate the help.

I’ve told you before the watch was fake or massively franken. this is the third thread (at least) you are posting about it, verdict will not change

@WatchFred. You are clearly confused.

This is the first time I am posting about this watch.
I started the thread just the other day in the help section and it was moved here. The watch was listed yesterday.

Maybe the watch has been listed before? But this is the first time I am posting about it and the first time I am seeing it.

Here’s proof against your unsubstantiated accusation that I’ve posted about this multiple times. These are ALL my posts of topics I’ve participated in.
