Hi all,

Long time Breitling fan, just joined.

I've had quite a few over the years, Colts, SuperOceans, Aerospace, M1, B1. Also had alot of other watches...

Currently have an old A17040 SuperOcean, with the coral dial. I love this one!

Anyway, the sapphire has picked up some scratches along the way, and I think the AR coating is coming off in places. Needs a replacement. Couple of questions I'd like to put out there:

1) The genuine OEM crystal is coming in at about £150, but I can source a generic for £65. Any reason not to go with the cheaper?
2) The crystal looks to be the 230.52- seems to be listed for the A17360 though, are these the same watch bar the WR? Look the same...

Many thanks indeed!

Welcome to the forum.

I believe the A17040 and A17360 shared a case so I think an A17360 crystal will fit. Your A17040 may in fact currently have mineral glass if it's an early model as they were only swapped over to sapphire later in that model's lifespan. If so, that'd certainly explain the scratches (unless it's actually just the AR that's scratched).

In terms of OEM vs generic, then personally I'm a stickler for OEM parts and for the sake of less than £100 I'd always go OEM. The AR Breitling apply is one of the best in the industry IMO, so personally that's reason enough to go OEM.
