So this afternoon I had my first opportunity to try on the new SOHC B01 in person. And..... it's fantastic! :D

Yes, I'd prefer it slightly more without the 4:30 date (but at least the date wheel is dial coloured and not got a boarder round it to highlight it), and I'd prefer it a lot more if it was a twin register model like the original from the 50's, BUT as a modern interpretation I think it's superb. It's the perfect size for me - it looks bigger in the pictures than it actually is due to camera foreshortening - and as expected the build quality is excellent. Even on the rubber it feels nicely weighted and extremely solid.

I'm in two minds over the Ocean Classic rubber though as I have been ever since it first came out. On the one hand it's a much better option IMO than the mesh as it tones down the shininess considerably, and the folding clasp is excellent. But on the other hand I've never really warmed to the faux-mesh look. Personally I think the Ocean Racer would be a much better option for this watch, but I actually think it would look incredible on an ISOfrane........but then you lose the superb folding clasp.

All in all, I really REALLY like this watch.

Anyway, here's a couple of pictures -

I’m glad to hear you liked it Driver. I agree on the rubber strap. I still really like the mesh on this one.

Hank has definitely left the building.

No Premiers in yet, so I've still not had the opportunity to check them out in person.

However I did also try out the vaguely similarly styled Speedmaster Racing which I liked immensely -

I just tried on the Omega Speedy racing as well and LOVED it. I was seriously considering it. The SOHC looks great, imagine that in a ceramic case!!!

I tried that Speedy Racing on as well last week. I was surprised at how thin it was. I had thought it was going to sit very high on the wrist but was surprised at how well it wore.

Yes, they've done a fair bit to reduce the height which has always been a criticism of the 9300/9900 movement-based watches. (The POC for example, while being gorgeous head-on, is just way too thick for most people).

I think a lot of the height of the Speedy Racing is "lost" in the caseback which means the sides of the case can be much thinner. Plus they've reduced the height of the almost box-crystal that was on the previous model. It all makes for a very nicely proportioned watch.

This looks so classy. Me thinks it is quite comfortable on a mesh bracelet for an evening out. Knocks the socks off a sub.

Thanks for posting these shots. I think I may pick up that rubber strap to go with mine.

I wish they still had that strap version with the tang buckle. I really like the look but I'm not sure how much I'll wear it so I'd rather buy the tang buckle than the strap plus deployant clasp.

Thanks for checking on that Fred. I don’t think Govberg has any and eBay prices are ridiculous. Maybe once I get he watch I’ll start calling some local ADs or even a boutique to see what I can find.

Holy shit bro been a long time since I seen you on here. Nice to see you’re back into watches.

Both these pieces are looking pretty good.

Got my blue rubber aero classic with the tang buckle today. It was in stock at the NYC boutique and had them ship it to me. Now I just need the watch. I figured I might as well get the strap now while they're still available.
