these were hand engraved in the 1940s, so of course you will see small differences when zooming in. let me assure you all are original.

Thanks Fred for your kind of "help it". Is there a known reason, why Breitling - as a well established company - still had to engrave the bridges instead of embossing?

these watches are from the mid 1940s - Breitling had just started to add their branding to the bridges (movements had been unsigned before, just like other manufacturers); stamping starts in the early 1950s.

so if you see a stamped 1940s Breitling movement; it's fake.

as to the why - nobody around to ask; actually I do prefer the nice hand engraved bridges, stamping is a much inferior and incomparably cheaper method, then and now; assume that's why they thought a well established manufacturer should offer this quality level ? So I'd rather ask myself why they resorted to stamped bridges in the 1950s ;)

Perfect strap for the rose gold. Great looking piece.

While we are looking at this, I need to ask: Was the "Premier" label only applied to Breitlings with gold cases? Is that what makes them Premier?

not at all; actually all "Premier" I am aware of were available in stainless steel; some even in plated variations.

the differentiator between the high end "Premier" (all carry three digit model references, leading 7) and the mid range chronographs of the "Cadette" line and others were the calibers used; all "Premier" have column wheel movements by Venus SA, the 13 lignes Venus 150/152 or the 14 lignes 175/178 (ref. 761 has a Landeron 39), the other models have the lever chronograph calibers Venus 188 (4-digit numbers leading 1 and 2), one model has a Landeron caliber.

so why wasn't the Venus 170 line called "Premier", as that's a column wheel caliber too ? maybe because never was no lever alternative, but nobody around to ask ....

Most appreciated info and insight, @WatchFred.

However, you have now raised additionnal questions that I must seek answers to regarding my ref. 787 Premier! I will start I separate thread in a bit.

Thanks!
