Hi all,

As promised, I took the B50 for its first aviation adventure today, but not before a thorough ‘vibration test’ on route to the airfield courtesy of Ducati!

Today’s flying was nothing too complex - some refresher safety handling drills in the local flying area and some circuits in a fairly sedate Piper Warrior PA28-161.

The watch performed well during a total flight time of 1hr 31min 37sec and 34/100sec. With the ‘hands parked’ the display was super clear and an easy read even in the gloom, and when the sun came out late afternoon the AR really came into its own.

Another benefit was the feature locking crown. Having flown with my Emergency and Chronospace in medium turbulence I would often find that the chrono function would get ‘selected’ to another function by the movement of my wrist – the B50 locking function worked really well in the late afternoon thermals over the Chilterns.

All things considered, another test passed. Next up, cross country nav.

Got to see one of these at an AD the other day and was surprised that I liked it. On principle I'm against anything that big, but it won me over. Part of it was that it was so darned light, light enough to seriously mitigate the size. The other mitigating factor was the low-profile aspect of titanium...made the whole thing a bit quieter than it would otherwise be. The high contrast of the digits was attractive, and the bezel is *real nice*. Made me glad I got an Evo, which hits a lot of the same notes aesthetically, so it kept me from wanting one too badly. It's a beaut for sure.

I guess also my notion of what's too big is beginning to relax with the emergence of smart watches, which are understandably sure to change fuddy-duddy ideas of good taste.

Great to see the B50 in it's natural habitat. I'm still very much debating whether I should get the B50 or not... pics like these do not help! 8)

Had my B50 for over 2 weeks now and absolutely love it! It replaced my 15 year old (and much loved) SuperOcean. It was a hard watch to give up, but when I saw the B50 for the first time whilst on holiday (and at an amazing price) I had to have it....

Apologies Willows, I flew again today (lunch on the Isle of Wight, UK, courtesy of another PA28 on the fleet G-SIXT). You might not like image... but the good news is that the watch performed well again.

Did you speak to London FIS?

Hi Jon

No need to talk to London FIS. Once outside of the departure ATZ (WAP) go to Farnborough Radar for MATZ penetration and basic service, then on to Solent Radar for a basic service, and finally on to Bembridge Radio for airfield information.

Not surprisingly it was a busy day today - great weather but a lot of traffic around!

Is G-EGLL based at your airfield? Have some time on her. Keep those pics coming! :lingsrock:

Hi Willows, I arrived at the airfield this morning and guess which aircraft I had been assigned...? G-EGLL - slightly spooky!

Great flight though, all be it a bit bumpy above the fields in the 06 circuit. Are you still flying?

Battery life so far - 35 days use and still showing 75% battery life remaining. Not bad.

Given that everything else is working, that's the best news yet.

Fantastic pics, Al! LL is looking well!

I'm just about to finish my final few ATPL exams. My head has been stuck in the books for the past few months, so I'm looking forward to getting some air-time! Lots of work, but nearly done.

That's great news about the B50s battery life! 8) Not bad at all.
