I had a piece coming from Europe, last tracking update says January 7th, saying its in the US awaiting admission to customs ... After that, no update, no letter... Unable to get any info from them thru the USPS... maybe one of you has a friend on the "inside" that could get me more info?? . Or perhaps a suggestion on best course of action. I've initiated a claim with the Italian post but they are not of much help.

Best,
Eric

Call USPS ?

Typically what happens is (at least here) they relabel the box from the italian tracking number to a 'local' tracking number that will fit the USPS system ?

Wayne has intimate knowledge about the us postal system , he might be able to shed some light on it as well ?

usps can't help without a U.S. Tracking number. Italian post cannot provide one. I just spoke with the Italian Post (in broken Italian) and he said all packages from Italy to the U.S. Have been delayed at customs, and should be delivered within a week's time. But really, I think he just wanted to be off the phone with me

I read one of Wayne's posts on Omega Forums about helping with international shipping... So was hoping he'd see this one

Shipping to and from Italy is worse than most 3rd world countries. There is a reason so many sellers on ebay will not ship there - mail theft is out of hand and has been for a long time. Myself, my brother and my son have all had shipments to Italy disappear. Good luck.

Yup, not looking good Craig. The strange thing is that the tracking said that it arrived at US customs. However, I have to wonder if it could be some type of seller scam, where the package is sent a certain way and guaranteed to be delayed or confiscated at customs. By the time you get the notice, 45 day eBay purchase protection has passed.

Luckily PayPal protection is now six months if it doesn't show up. They said I would be refunded no questions asked. If I don't receive it, I'm going to bet it was sent to be intentionally delayed or confiscated, As I had my doubts about the seller in the first place.

If it does show up, the piece is really good

Glad it showed up! Not looking so good for me, I'm afraid.

I filed a dispute with PayPal, and I have until the 25th to escalate it to a claim. It seems to have taken the seller by surprise, PayPal charged them back for the sale. I feel for them, as 49% of me thinks they were scamming and 51% half thinks they are genuine, inexperienced sellers.

Hoping for a miracle at this point

Wayne offered some good advice, when dealing with Italy, only use FedEx or if they insist on using Italian Post, send registered mail only.

Even Fedex is not sale in Italy - been there and done that - watch lost! At least they paid the insurance claim right away. The claim I had with USPS took 8 months!

I had a FedEx package sit in Italian customs for 30 days before they finally delivered it. Never had a problem getting anything from Italy though and, with experienced watch sellers, I usually have them in less than a week.
