Hi everyone. Just recently purchased a 1986 Breitling Cosmonaute watch and sent it in for a complete overhaul. The watch was working but was not serviced for sometime.
The price that was quoted was $2080, which was double what I expected. I am a little worried about the quote since the Authorized service center was not forthcoming with a cost breakdown and I had to ask twice to receive one. Does this quote look reasonable? How likely is it that the main plate is damaged, I didn't think this was typical?

Complete Service and removing the rust- 1355.00
New Mainspring- 75.00
Repair Mainplate- 400.00
New Pusher- 250.00

Well for me the telling part is "remove rust". If water has got in then all bets are off in terms of what is needed so $2,000 for servicing is quite likely. It's worth asking about the main plate, replacement may be a better option, but water repairs get real expensive real fast I'm afraid.

If you can still unwind the purchase that may be a better option, from a cost perspective the watch likely that isn't worth it.
