THIS IS NOW OHPF (off-forum)

Thanks to BS for hosting.

Gentlemen,

Recent incomings (and an impending Breitling Service bill of £550 for a Bentley Motors  ), means that a space or two must be made in the watch box. I've always seemed to have two of these, so for your consideration is a lovely Breitling SuperOcean Steelfish X-Plus, the 44mm A17390.

Specs and other useful info can be found here: http://www.breitlingsource.com/watch_details/Superocean_20.html

This automatic model, which incorporates the Breitling 17 Movement (modified ETA 2824-2) dates from April 2006, and is the larger 44mm case (in 2006 Breitling adopted the 'X-Plus' suffix to differentiate the new model from the earlier 42mm version, the A17360. In 2007, the name reverted back to simply 'Steelfish' ).

This is the ultimate Tool watch, Chronometer Certified of course, and rated at an official depth rating of 2000m (6600 feet, or roughly a mile and a quarter!)

It's a full set, double-boxed, with the stamped and dated Warranty booklet (May 2006), the COSC Certificate, the User Manual, the Authorized Distributor booklet, and the document wallet. The original Hang-Tag and a Bezel Protector are also included. All paperwork is pristine. The outer Yellow Box has some minor marks and bumps, nothing nasty. The black Bakelite presentation box is very good, some light tarnishing on the aluminium lettering, but seems fully intact, with unbroken, fully-working hinges unlike on so many of these.

It's in terrific condition, both mechanically and cosmetically. I got this back in May, and had it checked over and regulated by Steve at Ryte Time in July. It's running beautifully, with a strong reserve.

CONDITION REPORT:

Crystal: The slightly domed Sapphire Crystal is in immaculate condition. Even the Anti-Reflective coating looks spot on - I can just about make out one or two tiny marks to the AR, only visible under a loupe. In fact, the Sapphire crystal appears practically invisible in some lights, and the Dial really 'pops!'.

Dial: Silver/White Dial, with 'Guilloche' concentric circles, which accentuates the metallic finish. Large applied steel Arabic numbers at 12, 6 and 9. Applied steel circle markers, lume filled, for other numbers. Steel-framed Quickset Date window at 3 (clicks over bang on midnight). Applied Breitling Wings Logo in steel. Minute Marker Track to outer of dial, 24 hour clock indicators to inner. Perfect condition, and lume is outrageous.

Hands: Hour and Minute hands are slim steel 'swords', segmented, tapering outwards slightly, with a luminous fill. The central Seconds is steel, needle style with a lumed square and a red tip. All in mint condition. Again, the lume is terrific.

Case: The case is a classic diver-style, with a satin-brushed finish to the steel on the top surfaces, and a mirror-polish finish to the sides and underside. Overall condition is excellent, some very light swirls or hairline marks, some very minor nibbles and the odd 'shiny' edge, but no major dinks or gouges, no major nicks. Even on the mirror-polished sides, which tend to attract micro-scratches like you wouldn't believe, condition looks excellent, minor hairlines and negligible edge-bumps only.

Caseback: The caseback is a 15-sided screwback type, in polished steel to the outer part, brushed to the central section. Markings are clear, including Model and Serial numbers, with very light hairline scratches, but nothing nasty - see photos. Not recently pressure tested - you'll need to do this if serious immersion in water is likely.

Bezel: There is a unidirectional steel bezel, in a satin-brushed finish, with a high-polish finish thin 'chimney' band to the inner above the crystal, and another band of highly polished steel to the outer, with stud details, and an engraved fancy 'B' between 55 and 0. The bezel, which rotates smoothly in 120 crisp 'clicks', is engraved with relevant increments (numbered 0-55 with minute markers). Raised 'riders', highly polished, at the quarters, including lumed 'pip' at 12. Some very light micro scratches to the polished steel sections, and negligible hairlines on the brushed bezel surface, but again, nothing obvious or glaring. The 'chimney' has some light scratches, but better there than on the crystal. The riders have some light marks too. The photos accentuate it somewhat, but there are visible light signs of use, but nothing glaring or nasty.

Crown: Original large Screw-Down ridged-edge steel crown, clear 'B' signed. Excellent, and works perfectly.

Movement/Running: I had my watchmaker inspect and regulate this for me in July. The Breitling-signed 17 Calibre movement (modified ETA 2824.2 base) is in excellent order, and running well, with a strong reserve (rated at 42 hours). Timekeeping is pretty much spot on. I've timed this over the last 24 hours, it lost a couple of seconds. I've actually never worn this (I have another), but I do tend to periodically put my watches on a winder for a quick spin when not in use.

Bracelet: The watch is mounted on its original Professional I Steel Bracelet (894A EndLinks). The date code on the bracelet (S2805) gives a manufacturing date of mid-July 2005. The Pro I bracelet is full size - it's very loose on my 8.3" gorilla wrist - so it will accommodate pretty much any size wrist (certainly up to 8.6" or 220mm). Condition is very good. There are the usual 'desk-diver' swirls on the links, but nothing deep or nasty, and no flat-spots. Overall, there's no stretching or looseness to the links.

Clasp: The brushed-finish clasp is good too, but does have some marks, including a visible 2mm horizontal scratch to the bottom right that you can just about feel with a fingernail. The Clasp and Diver Extension both work perfectly. The Breitling logo and wording are both crisp and clearly legible.

Measurements: Width (without Crown): 44mm. (With Crown: 48.7mm). Thickness: 16.1mm. Lug-to-lug: 52mm. Lug Width 22mm. Weight 221 grams

Other: I think I've covered everything - it's a big 'tool' watch, it's double-boxed with papers, it's in terrific condition. It comes on it's original full-sized Pro I bracelet, which is a perfect match to the dual finish steel/silver dial head. It's a heavy beast (221 grams on the bracelet), and has a terrific wrist presence. It's over 8 years old, so it's not going to be mint, but condition is remarkably good for its age. And if you ever find yourself wondering what time it is while diving at over a mile underwater, this is the very watch for you!

Do have a good look at the (multiple) photos - they will enable you to evaluate the cosmetic condition far better than my waffle...

The Steelfish was discontinued by Breitling in 2012, as they pushed the SO Abyss range launched in 2011. Which is a pity, as the Steelfish is such a nice watch. However, it does mean there's quite a demand for a good 'fish! On the forums, I've seen them go for £1500 or so, and the prices being asked on the 'bay are even higher (one in comparable condition just went for £1550, another is advertised at an eye-watering £1800). Even a tatty non-box/paper version, and on a used rubber strap, recently sold for over £1250).

I'll put this up at an extremely reasonable £1339 - that's a bit of a steal, considering I sold a similar watch but on the Breitling leather strap for £1249. The price includes Next Day RMSD for UK members. Overseas will need to contact me for exact Shipping costs based on destination, but I'll use a Tracked & Insured Delivery Service, so you're looking at an extra £20-£30 I'd guess (it's a heavy package).

I've loads of Feedback on here, I'm a 'Top Rated' e-bay seller (3100+ deals, 100%, username 'goonermike'), and I've got plenty of Feedback on TZ-UK (username 'BigBird'), so there are no worries there.

I'd prefer payment by BT. PayPal if absolutely necessary, or for overseas, but I cannot accept PayPal Gifts (my account just won't accept them, and I get charged even on gifts). So if you want to use PayPal, it'll be via the 'official' route, and you'll need to add 3.4% to cover Fees.

If I've missed anything, you'd like more info or pics, please feel free to PM me.

Cheers!

Mike

Lots of pictures, spread over multiple posts due to bandwidth restrictions - enjoy...!

Starting with some head shots - the dial colour can vary from almost White to a light Ivory as the light hits it, but it's best described as Silver:
