Thanks for all the reply's; this forum is incredible.

For the past 33 yrs this watch as been safely tucked away only to surface during very special occasions or when I want to brag around my aviation brethren - over a couple beers of course.

As I've gotten older I've become more interested in the watch and have attempted to discover the history, origin and value with no-joy. This forum has rectified all that, I didn't even know the "year of birth" of this watch until a couple days ago...thank you.

As for issues...concerns...questions...please fire away. I never started this quest for the purpose of selling the watch but to gather information. It is absolutely crazy how knowledgeable and passionate the people are on this forum and I whole heartily welcome it.

Bottom line - I've learned more about this watch in the last 48 hrs then I ever knew in the last 33 yrs, and for that I thank each and every one of you.

As for the spot on the dial and badly bent lug...no worries...here's four more pic's.

Thanks To All...

As expected without the added photos, this watch is perfect! Some have to find flaws in the Mona Lisa unless of course, they own the Mona Lisa!
This is one of the best sets we have seen on the site in quite some time and you should be honored to own such. It is my true hope that this stays with you and is passed along as a heirloom piece that it is. Some things you cannot put a price on, how you came to own it, it's history, that is something that selling would take deep thought and family considerations. Your blessed to own this!
Thank you so much for sharing this with us and I am glad to have had the pleasure.

Best,
Wayne

WOW...and not "weight on wheels"...sorry aviation term.

I am somewhat surprised at the reception of this watch, I always knew it was special but this is over the top. I was young when the watch was given to me and as far as I remember the man who gave me the watch was either a Hurricane or Spitfire pilot in the Second World War with no family.

With the history and condition of this watch I feel I am only the second care taker of the watch.

One question - Did you notice it even has the original tissue paper the watch came with?

I've been less active here recently because of limitations of time and access, and with vintage specifically there are so many people more qualified than I to offer thoughts. However, I have to say that this thread is one of the most delightful that I can remember on here for a long time. An extremely genuine owner with an incredibly special watch who is clearly delighted to learn what the experts here are only too delighted to offer.

Even the (sadly predictable) green mist in one area cannot detract from a great thread and a spectacular watch. Long may it stay in your family, and wear it in good health when you do show it the light of day.

It's heartening to be reminded every now and then what makes this forum what it is!

It's a great forum indeed, and yes - some of us are quite knowledgeable & passionate.

I treat every post, watch deal etc. the same way, if somebody post a picture of a watch and I see a possible flaw, I'll mention it, just like I'll ask for additional pictures from a seller if I see a possible flaw.

I we all generally expect that a watch with a possible flaw is perfect without additional photos (now we know for sure that one member does), then we from time to time end up being severely burned, trust me - I have learned that lesson the hard way.
As for your watch, it's beautiful, and I believe that Fred nailed the value pretty well, obviously because he's one of the knowledgeable ones

As far as my comment about the possible bent lug, try to place the watch on a flat surface, if all 4 lugs touch the surface then it's good, if it "rocks" then it's likely that the lug is bent.

Here's some additional fun to kill time with it, and maybe lead you to enjoy your watch more. (Kindly sent to me by Mr. Bill Shaine)

I don't think it was specifically pointed out to you, but Kurt's article contained in his signature link

has lots of very useful expert information on the history and development of the Navi.

Lovely watch - congratulations.
