Was in the London Boutique yesterday picking up a watch from service (they are a really professional and friendly bunch BTW) and they kindly offered to let me try on the new Emergency 2.

They had all dial colours in titanium to try, and a 'Night Mission' which was 'look only' as some lucky person has already bought it (£13,500 GBP).

I'll say two things -

They are absolutely stunning!

And they are absolutely massive (but I would still have bought one on the spot had funds allowed...)


I also looked at the 46mm Navi - it's perfect. I'm going to buy one. And I chatted to them about the Cockpit B50 due in soon - they have a bunch of extra detail on the in-store iPad app. I'm now deciding which of my B&R's to flip for it...

Two new watches a year is ok isn't it?

I think my thighs are probably too small for the E2...

My wrists are not too small for the E2 thankfully. Is there anyway you can get and post some pics of it? Especially the "Night Mission" one since I am contemplating that one for myself. In the US, no AD I have spoken to has any information still on the E2, and they apparently have no idea that it is available in the UK. Maybe I should seek a new AD here in California since they don't seem to be too knowledgeable about Breitling.

And yes, two watches a year is more than fine.

Approval of the transmitter in the US is delaying the launch - will likely not be there until the Fall.

I can confirm that several boutique Breitling shops in Europe have stock of the Emergency 2. I called the boutique shops and no one in Asia has it, no one in the Middle East has it either. Seems to be only in Europe for now. They all said the US won't get any for a while due to frequency regulations. It seems the price has gone up as well, and the regular version is around $18000 USD and the black titanium is around $21000 USD.

Clarification: the watches are sold in the country of residence of buyers at the moment.
This means that a French Emergency II may be purchased by a French resident only.
The sale of these watches is not yet available in some countries or areas due to the local laws about rescue & frequenties...

Also the Alarm clock (a big error on all the marketing stuff I think, why?) is present in this massive Emergency II Watch (51mm & 20mm), but less than a Casio Rangeman in fact (55.2 × 53.5 × 18.2 mm)

It seems that there are several Breitling dealers that have the Emergency 2 now in England. Does anyone know where else in the world the E2 is available? I mean outside of Europe.

Huge and really expensive. Not for me for certain! I'm glad it will be just what the Dr. ordered for some!

I was told they have to get a license for each country to use the transmitter and in some countries its taking longer to get the license can't remember the exact countries but I think it was Russia and Asia.

To get this Emergency II, you have to live in the country of residence only.
It means that a foreign buyer from UK (example) can not buy an Emergency II and register it in France from a French Breitling AD.
It will exclude the "grey market" for those watches in the future (also with the new eWarranty Card now).
One SN/Type for an Emergency II Watch for one country only I think.

The main reason for this isn't 'license' per se, but more to do with the fact that with a 406Mhz PLB/EPIRB, each has a unique identifier (Hex ID of 15, 22 or 30 bits) that is transmitted to the sat to identify the beacon. Those PLB's with GPS will also transmit their GPS data too. The UID is country-specific to enable the system to pass the 'distress message' across to the correct EPIRB registry, which in the UK is the MCGA (Maritime and Coastguard Agency) where the registration of the user/device is held.

I have a McMurdo FastFind II GPS and the registration is quite onerous, having to provide lots of detail about use (in my case multiple aircraft) and also next of kin/emergency contacts etc.

If there is a beacon activation, the MCGA will phone the emergency contact list on my database record to check whether I am actually flying or sitting at home watching the TV. If the latter, the alert can be cancelled so long as they can verify me. If they can not verify a false activation, then the rescuers are dispatched from whatever part of the world is closest to my signal.

But to clarify the point above, you cannot register a non-UK PLB/EPIRB (one that doesn't have the correct UK identifier in the hex ID) at the UK registry, nor a UK beacon in the US registry etc etc. Therefore Breitling have to ensure that the correct country-specific beacons go to the correct country of sale. And if there is any doubt, COSPAS/SARSAT have a page where you can check your beacon ID at:

Some beacons can be reprogrammed with a new Hex ID, but I doubt that the sub-mini one in the Eii could be - though this could bring up some interesting issues if an owner changed their country of residence.

Be careful taking pics of the Breitling AD window display. I did that once while vacationing in Santorini, and the AD guy came at me, yelling, wapping me with a newspaper.
