Please advise. I bought my first Breitling yesterday, colt gmt. Today less then 24hrs old while claping my hands the bracelet broke from the watch. It broke from the spring part where it is attached to the watch. It hit the floor seems no damage but of course I am concerned. I have fixed t but feel the bracelet spring part might be a bit lose. Where do I stand? I take it back to the store tomorrow, and ask for a new bracelet. will they honour this or say sorry if you are not happy it has to go off to Breitling. In fact could I get a new watch as I am worried about the impact of the fall? Who is at fault, I feel it happened when I asked for some links to be taken out. Or would anyone confirm that most Bracelet's have lose springs hence why you can change them when you choose. To repeat I have had this less then 24hrs but do feel the shop may say once it leaves the store it is my fault. any feedback before I visit the store would be appreciated. thanks, (by the way love the watch)

I would take it back asap. Sounds like the spring bar was not properly installed after they removed the links. Not your fault, you were just wearing the watch as intended by your purchase. If it were my AD they would snatch it off my wrist, hand it over to the watch dept. and make sure it was perfect then hand it back no questions.[/b][/i]

thanks Chance97, i expect them to do this, but would your AD give you a new watch as you feel it may have been damaged inside from the fall? Or even a new bracelet as the one you have may be faulty?

The watches are designed to withstand some impacts. If its working fine, its probably okay. Give it a few weeks or months to make sure everything still works fine.

As far as the bracelet goes, it should also be fine. The spring bars are not part of the bracelet and can be replaced very easily. If one is bad or too loose, you can get a new one from your AD, probably for free. My guess is that when the bracelet was put back on, the spring bar may not have gone al the way into the hole on the watch case and slipped out completely when you clapped. Either way, getting a new spring bar wouldnt hurt and would probably give you some peace of mind.

I agree with the others. I wouldn't insist on a replacement watch at this point, but the store definitely needs to be made aware that their mistake in not putting the springbar in properly (it really can't be anything else if the springbar isn't broken) caused the watch to fall.

That way if you do have problems with the watch in a few months with it not keeping time within COSC specs then you have already documented the potential cause with the AD.

Sorry to hear your story, but you already got the good advice from chance97, RJRJRJ and Roffensian. I'd have done the same thing.

Edward,

What a terrible thing to have happened! The other chaps are right:
get it back to your AD pronto, but make the point (in no uncertain terms!)
that the problem was their fault, and that if there is mechanical trouble due
to the watch being dropped, they need to do the right thing.
Breitlings are pretty rugged, though; I honestly don't think one drop
will hurt the movement. Good luck.

Steve

Good news from the AD. Fair play to them they gave me a brand new bracelet, no questions and were very helpful. Thanks for all your advice. Watch is back on looking good. After many years wearing tag, this is an upgrade I am very happy with.

Good to hear your AD sorted that out for you. Hopefully you'll be able to enjoy it on the wrist now!
