I saw the Breitling case in an AD when I bought my Raymond Weil about 10 years ago. I loved them but it was way more than I was willing to spend. Then 2 years ago, my wife and I had a will made and our attorney had a grey B4B GT. I was kinda in the market for a watch... I bought one within a few months

I've been a subscriber to Automobile magazine for a long, long time. I saw an ad when I was in middle school for a B4B and fell in love.

I hope no one minds a revival of this thread, cuz it's a great one; certainly some positive reading! In the two years since the last post, another 5,200 registered users have joined BS, so I'm sure there's enough stories to fill an Antonov An-225, or something. Just a suggestion for the Moderator's consideration, but this may make a good permanent thread in the Introductions section.

Anyway, here's my story. I had never heard of Breitling until about 5 years ago (makes me nouveau WIS?) when my lawyer brother-in-law tells me about his growing watch collection. He said he had a couple of Breitlings and he was wearing one and it looked and felt pretty serious in my hand. Searching the Breitling website a few weeks after that, I was really impressed by the product, but scared off by the prices. Every once in a while I would check back, same great looking line-up.

Then a couple of years ago, my wife encouraged me :cheer: to pick out a new watch, to celebrate a recent promotion at work. Well, that kind of opened the floodgates to research :google: and further drooling over lots of watches including TAGs and I thought that's where I was headed because of price and local availability. The place in town with the most expensive watches is Costco and there were several TAGs in the display case. Meanwhile, the research I was doing revealed the whole grey market world and I didn't feel right about getting a new watch at the big box store minus a manufacturer's warranty. So more research, thought about :breitling2 (and OMEGA) some more, and I re-checked the prices of those and some models were now within reach! After much humming and hawing, driving my wife crazy, I decided I wanted the 2008/2009 generation of SuperOcean and contacted some ADs in the big city. Little did I realize that I was too late. So naive was I, how dare they redesign their models! :guns:

Well, I had a plan B that filled the bill in summer 2012 and made me just as happy.

Yes, the OMEGA Seamaster 300M with the wavy dial and coaxial movement (and usually sharp focus  ) - one of the last available via an AD in B.C. Thankfully my timing was better with this watch and I narrowly avoided getting hooked on another discontinued model! I chose it because I liked the styling, colour and simplicity and was completely unaware that it was a James Bond watch.

I thought then I was done, just needed one automatic Swiss watch, right? But "it" kept calling me. I joined BS a month after the OMEGA purchase and also soon discovered the very handy Watchrecon website. In hindsight, keeping an eye on what was coming up for sale was both good and bad. I learned a lot more about watches and buying watches, but was also spending too much time thinking about them. :whiner: :nono: By early summer this year, I got off the fence, made up my mind that if the opportunity came up for a SuperOcean, I was going to go after it. Not long after that there were three available all at the same time; I contacted one of the sellers and the rest is history.

A lot of my research was done outside of forums like BS, so it was more time consuming - it sure is good to be part of this community now, in fact I don't think I'd have my SuperOcean without BS! :)

Well since it's been revived, I might as well pipe in.

Was around 2005ish when I saw Novacastrian wearing a cool looking watch. Had no idea of the price or brand at the time, but liked it. Researched a bit, and realised as a university student at the time I had no chance at getting one any time soon... so started saving up and formed a separate bank account for my watch fund. Whilst a student it was only ever a dollar here or there, and once I started working it was a bit more, but then my wedding, mortgage, car, charity etc limited savings for awhile. Finally after about 6 years I'd saved enough for the Comsonaute I'd been after, and started actively looking. Turns out I'd over estimated the price by quite a bit and saved too-much (nice situation to be in!) , and was able to buy a Steelfish a few months later as well :-)

The Emergency just came up for sale at the right time, with our tax refund coming in :-)

I think it was the Chronogogue 2007...

http://www.chrono24.de/breitling/teilez ... 0&tab=pics

...that seized my attention. The description of their quality control system, COSC, the focus on their aviation heritage, the robust product image plus the uniqueness of their design took me in. Then, in 2008, I took the plunge with a Chrono Cockpit (39 mm diameter), good for my slim wrists, sold it later, the black dial wasn't for me. But the watch ran perfectly. In early 2009 my Colt Auto II with silver dial followed, which is still my favourite Breitling so far. In 2009 Breitling launched their new Chronomat 01, I hoped for a smaler version which is now available. Another couple of month...

I started liking breitling when I saw the SA on their website and started researching more about it.
The price was what I could afford and I liked the thickness, weight of watch and polished case and bracelet.

I saw Breitling first in Paris at an AD on the Rue de Rivoli on our journey with my wife - in 1989... :) it was the Chronomat back then that drew the attention of both of us... My wife - who was not a watch enthusiast at that time - liked that Chronomats a lot too. Now her daily beater is a Colt Ocean 33 mm. And I enjoy my 4 Lings, planning to buy another few.
Best,
Robert

4 years back, when I was 34. I got tired of replacing my favorite Citizen Navihawk watch every 3-4 years or so, and decided as a pilot I needed to get serious and buy a professional watch. Did lots of research, then fell in love with the Aeropspace, which led to deciding on an Airwolf. When I went to go buy it, though, I ended buying THREE Breitlings. (fell in love with a Chrono Evo at the same time, and then got one for the wife)

Now I'm craving a white-faced SA, but don't have the money. Must be disciplined.

My father used to love the brand, I didn't. I felt it was waaaay overpriced.

Two years ago I started hanging around the High Accuracy Forum, where B's are highly recommended.

So when I had the chance I jumped over a used B-1 in almost perfect conditions.

What a gorgeous watch. Outstanding quality. Worth every penny.

So my father was right in the end.

I've cribbed this from a similar older post of mine.... but it's all still valid -

I've always been into watches, even when I was a little kid and I was one of the few kids at my infant school who had a watch! (A little Timex, followed by a blue Casio digital if I remember rightly).

Over the years I progressed through a load of watches, that all got more and more expensive, until around 1996 or 1997 when I started to look at "proper" expensive watches (like the Omega Seamaster as a result of Goldeneye coming out, which I managed to pick up - quartz version though at the time!) when I remember seeing a couple of adverts for Breitling watches in magazines like FHM. I then picked up a Chronolog from an AD and was absolutely smitten by the two-tone, blue dial, Crosswind they had in there. I remember drooling over that picture for ages, before finally coming to terms with the fact that I couldn't afford it! As a result I picked up a secondhand Chronomat before trading it against a brand new Superocean around 1999. Never looked back!

The odd thing is, even to this day I've never owned that Crosswind that was actually responsible for getting me into Breitlings in the first place!

I have always been a watch wearer since I can remember. My first "real" watch I got in 1980 for High School graduation, a Seiko diver that had an illuminating light when the crown was pushed in. I still have it somwhere. Anyhow, around 1986 a Dr friend of mine showed me his Aerospace with all the features. I fell in love with it and started looking at Breitlings. This was before the internet, and research was going to the only swanky department store in the area that handled them. I really wanted an Aerospace, but it was just too much for me to afford. So, I put a Colt Military Quartz on lay-away for about $600. Took me 6-months to get that baby.

I wore that watch day and night for about 20-years. Changing batteries, straps, and servicing it once. Then finally in 2007 it gave up the ghost when a seal failed and salt water got inside.

Good news was that I was now better off financially, so I went down to my AD and bought me an Aerospace. Took me 21-years, but I did it, and I've been doing it every year since...:)

First saw Breitlings when a worked at planet Hollywood in Hong Kong. Breitling held some sort of function there and I just really wanted one! 15 years later I got my first and 1 month ago I it my second!
