They are making precisely $0 from Costco.

Breitling makes money when the watch is sold to the AD, when the AD sells to someone else it is the AD that makes money. Breitling simply doesn't seem to care about grey market sellers, whether that is an appropriate response is a different debate.

They aren't making any money from Costco directly, but they are no doubt increasing their overall sales and indirectly making more money by not cracking down on grey dealers such as Costco. Allowing the grey market channel in turn allows Breitling to sell more watches to the AD's who are dumping watches into the grey and then purchasing different or additional watch from Breitling that they may not have been able to buy if slower selling watches just sat in their displays. So indirectly, Costco allows Breitling to make more money. Breitling doesn't seem to care because they already made their profit from the AD which as you said is a completely different debate.

Yes and no.

Breitling insist that their ADs achieve certain sales volumes or they lose their AD status and some ADs find it necessary to sell to the grey market in order to achieve those targets. I am sure that without the grey market some ADs wouldn't be able to maintain volumes, and I am equally sure that some ADs could achieve target but it would take more work.

Breitling is certainly tolerant of grey market, and as has been pointed out in many of these threads in the past it would be very easy for them to clamp down if they wanted just by buying grey market pieces and tracing the sourcing AD. I suspect that Costco is harder for Breitling to swallow than some of the online dealers, but ultimately they allow it by their inactivity.

Interesting thoughts, honestly I was just appreciating the watch and price my local Costco has and if it was the right time I'd probably buy it. Do greatly appreciate the knowledge base and users from this site

I can totally understand how some would never get near the gray market, for me it was very simple. The price of the watch I purchased at Costco was about $600.00 less then that of the nearest AD (about a 5 hour drive away). As far as the warranty goes, I personally prefer having a life time full refund should anything go wrong. That alone can sway many to buy their luxury high end watch at Costco over an AD, choices are limited but if the right one came along....

Costco is a huge grey market buyer. Calvin Klein just had a big lawsuit against them for selling their clothes without their permission.

I think that if you can get this watch cheaper with Costco and it last over 2 years with no problems, then you would never needed the Breilting warranty. And if after the 2 years you have a problem, then you send it directly to Breitling just as anyone else would do with a Breitling purchased from a AD. You would need to pay for the fix like anyone else.
If you get tired, then you take it to Costco get your money back and buy a newer model.

Their supply changes from store to store, is almost as is they just randomly purchase them. They have one for $30K on line

Wow! The Chronomat 01 LE in Rose Gold! Very nice, however I'd have to commit a serious crime first to be able to afford that one, even from Costco :-)

I would bet that Breitling is well aware and has no issues with Costco selling their watches, just think how much more money they are making from them, the bottom line with any business.

The National Sales Manager was in my store last week and he's well aware of the Costco and Sam's Club situation. Trust me, they are actively pursuing the source of where the watches are coming from. He was actually going to stores, buying the watches, and tracing the original stores where they came from. They also want any AD's in areas where a Breitling's show up in grey market stores to try and get the serial numbers if possible, and report the info to their respective reps.

About time!

Hopefully they will do the same with the big name online dealers.

This means then that by no chance should Costco be selling Breitling, only the AD.

Well, as the serial numbers are being left intact these day, it should not be difficult to figure that one out if they really want to. Not sure if they really want to or even should they want to???

Agreed, if this was done it could only result in a reduction of company sales. For the sake of the AD they should at least make the appearance that they are trying to control or stop it. Just in the US there are over 1,000 Sam's Clubs and Costco's. Do they go to all and purchase them back negating their profits? Then what do they do with all the now "used" watches, sell them back to the AD's to start the cycle again? How about all the AD's that sold them to the gray market to start with, not allow them to sell their watches would not be the best move either.
