As mentioned in my BS Introduction, I had a 1999 Intruder that was declared DOA and unrepairable by Breitling........



...........the old quartz movement is no longer available. I'm proceeding with a replacement (probably a Colt Chronograph II) using a discount offered by BUSA. An EBay seller has an Intruder that has a different dial (black w/ yellow numerals) and a "Brand New Multifunction Movement Installed Less Than a Month Ago".

Really? Is there someone who can fit a quality aftermarket quartz movement w/ the proper digital displays into older Breitling quartz watches? Is it a reliable fix? I so liked the Intruder, that I'm tempted to make an offer on the EBay watch. The seller has a 100% rating on > 1500 sales.

Thoughts? Insights? Warnings?

The movement is obsolete. At this point there are still a fair number of replacements available from donor watches (used by others beyond Breitling), but they are all the same age. You may find a donor watch and have a movement that works for another 20 years, or it might die tomorrow.

Wow, that was a lightning fast reply...thanks. So I take it the "New Multifunction Movement" is likely only new to that watch. Sort of like getting a "New" kidney transplant - used but new to the lucky recipient!!!

Right, this movement hasn't been produced for a decade or more.

Actually the Miyota Y652 movement used in the Pluton/Navitmer 3100/Intruder/Navitimer 3300 is a pretty good piece. Most still work properly 20 years after they were produced. if you need a replacement movement there are always some to be found on ebay. I never pay more than $75 for one and have got them as cheap as $15. Some sellers know the movements can be used in Breitlings and try to sell the movements for $100-$200 but they rarely sell for that much. Just look for Seiko H461, Pulsar, Phasar, and other off brands to find a suitable replacement.
