Another classic, which I believe was Merv again but would need to check, was "How's your wife and my kids?"

Prompt reply: "Wife's great, kids are retarded"

Edit: It was Marsh to Botham, with Botham providing the quick reply.

Ian Healy was no slouch in the sledging department either. My all time favorite was Healy to Ranatunga. Something along the lines of:

Healy to Warne: "Throw a mars bar on a good length. That'll draw him out".

On another note. Predictable collapse by the Aussie batting order. Super 2nd innings by England and Bell in particular. Pity about the obvious Broad dismissal but it's not like it made all that much difference. Good test in the end (not that I saw a ball of it).

Ranatunga apparently responded with "Boonie will beat me to it!"

Yep, a pretty predictable collapse. 311 was always going to be too big a task. They needed to restrict England to 250 in the second innings. They could have chased 185.

Heading off to bed. It's 10:55pm here and lunch in UK. Australia with 20 to win and a wicket in hand. What will i wake up to?

An incredible match regardless - if the series stands up to this then it is going to be a classic.

Edit, predictably dramatic end - really didn't expect that appeal to succeed but looks like it was the right call. Obviously happy to see an England victory, but an amazing match, incredible stories, and really not sure that either side deserved to lose. Can't wait until the next one.

Well that was close !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Well played to the Aussies, especialy the bowlers for their tail end batting. Bring on the Lords test. Typical for the game to end on a review the way this match has gone.

Technology ruined what was a super test. Well done England. Not a convincing way to win but a win is a win-well done, you played well. Technology should clearly only be there for the howler based on that test alone. In any event it's going to be a super series and if/when our top order finds a way to bat, who knows what will happen. On to Lord's.

Oh bottom. Well done England. Good match. Let's hope the Australian batting line up can improve... or be reversed.

Yes well congrats Aus too for their part in a memorable game. Great fight. I always thought this series was going to be closer than some of the more bellicose English pundits thought, though that was partly also wishful thinking - wanting a contest - and it was good to have it realised. Personally I'm finding it hard to dislike this Aus side (an essential ingredient for real Ashes relish). OK, Pattinson and Starc have some panto-villain moments, but most of the country was rooting for Agar to get his ton; Rogers I like as he's been great for my county (Middx); and Michael Clarke must be one of the nicest guys in the game, comes over extremely well in interview. Roll on Lord's (I'll be there).

Great test and shows that every Ashes match is a real contest. As others have said, only down side was the poor umpiring which DRS couldn't always correct.

On to Lords on Thursday!

Was just watching coverage (not a bad start for Australia) and they showed Steve Waugh in the stands. Looked like he was wearing an old Navi.

Glad I didn't see the score early on, that would have been a bit scary. Looks like England have stabilised things but still a way to go to feel comfortable.

Great start by the Aussies but England have stabilized. Bell in rare form.

Agreed - I thought that too.

There you go, page 18 of the thread and we've made a connection between the Ashes and Breitling!
