I might not be the only one to say this, but I work in an industry where watches don't play any significant role, and no one has ever noticed and mentioned a single one of my watches before, ever. I buy/wear them because of what they say to me, and how/what emotion they can draw from me.

That being said, after the loss of our daughter last year, my wife and I are taking our lives in the direction we planned to some 30 years from now. My watches and really most of my material items no longer have any power to draw emotion from me, so all my watches are going up for sale, and we have given most of our stuff to charity we don't need.

Phase 2 of my life will begin soon I hope :)

Sorry to hear about your terrible loss. I guess your tragic experience gives you another perspective on what is really important in life. I can see why such objects no matter how nice they look and well-made they are, all of a sudden become truly meaningless.

What's the meaning of the 4:20 code???[/quote]

4:20 is a time or code that represents smoking some herbal substance.

Justin,

I too am very sorry to hear of your loss. Unfortunately, several of our friends and family members have gone through multiple pregnancy's without ever getting to meet their child, and I feel for you as I did for them. I am so incredibly lucky and fortunate that we were able to have two beautiful healthy girls, and I hope that in the future things will work out better for your wife and you. Try not to give up hope. Even though I try not to believe it, it really does seem that everything happens for a reason.

On another note, my watches say that I probably spend too much on things I don't need!

Interestingly enough I just got a COMPLAINT of all things about my watch. My buddy says "I don't like that one watch you wear that blinds me when we play poker." He was talking about the CSO on the extremely shiny Pro II. I told him tough pal, I'll take any advantage I can!

Is it 4:20 yet?

Late to the party was away for a few days. First, Justin so sorry to hear about your terrible loss. Hope you find peace over time.

I'd like to say I don't care what others think about my watch, but I know that is really not 100% the truth ( gosh I bought a Colt 44  ). I buy them because I like them and they each mean something to me. My wife is supportive to a point so that helps a great deal. On the rare occasion that somebody has actually noticed/commented on my watch I was pleased by it. Because of where/who I work with this rarely happens.

Finally; I got a good laugh out of the Rolex tattoo idea. This is a bit old but I defy you to listen to this and not laugh.

Justin, I am deeply sorry to hear about your terrible loss.I wish you and your wife all the strength you need for the future.

Even if you don't intend your watch to say something about you, it still will. You have chosen it because of certain attributes. Maybe most passers-by do not adhere to your watch, but some will and they will derive "something" from your watch. And maybe this "something" is not exactly what you intended (if you intended anything, that is).
By the way, judging by the WWAYWT thread at least some of us watch owners do like to show off their watch ;)

Well that begs the question, what does the absence of a watch say about a person?

I would say that the brand is WAY more concerned about their "image" than any of the customers could ever possibly be. Even if they are chasing that image. Rolex has tennis and golf. Breitling has airplanes, and Omega has James Bond...(for the forseeable future) I know there may be more, it's just what is at the top of my mind.

I see their commercials on tv, and videos on their websites. I think they are absolutly rediculous. They do nothing to bring me to their brand. If anything, they annoy me. They go to great lengths to paint their image.

Us WIS folks seem to not be swayed by their propaganda, but I know many are. Each brand fills specific niches in the market, and when you take a close look at their lineup, you can pretty much guess the age/type of people they are specifically targeting.

My belief is that most folks are willing to pay "luxury" money for one or two categories of items. It may be a daily stop at Starbucks or top shelf booze or weekly trips to the spa. Most folks splurge on something. We happen to like watches. Obviously it is not logical to spend more money to have one of our watches serviced than most pay for their watches over a twenty year period. Yet that is what we do. Now I find it illogical for people to spend huge money on luxury washer and dryers and when I go to my friends that do and they show me their new washers and dryers it does nothing for me as I suspect my watches don't do much for them. I'm sure if money were no object then that would be different, but money is not unlimited in my case.

For me the answer to "why Breitling?" was about style and I find them to have had a sporty style that appeals to me. Sadly, however the more recent styles for the most part are not resonating well for me. I have been looking at other brands lately and I must admit the TT Sub and GMT's have caught my fancy. I used to think they were too conservative , but my mind has been changing of late. Enjoy your watches everyone.
