I am going to be Married May 2009 and my wife to be has agreed to Buy me a watch as a wedding gift.

I am having trouble finding the right one.

I have a 6.5" wrist. I am pretty active. I want a watch that I can wear with a suit or with jeans.

I have tried on the Chrono superocean and the Colt automatic. Not sure which one to get. I am leaning towards the Superocean, but not sure that the watch will be in style in 10, 20 years. I want this to be a watch i can wear forever.

What do you guys think?

I would go with the Colt Auto or GMT. This watch will stand the test of time over the years with its classic styling and dial.

It also goes well with just about any outfit you wear for the day. I'm a big believer in having all 3 strap choices (steel, leather, and rubber) to mix it up.

Congrats on the wedding and I don't think you'll be dissapointed with either one of those models.

While I am partial to the SO as a first Breitling purchase, it may not mix so well with suit and tie for everyone (although it goes great for me!).
I have a bit of a bigger wrist, so I cannot give the best personal advice on these two choices. Having said that, the Colt may, in fact, be the better choice.
Failing that, why not try on a Navitimer. I can assure you that a Navi will work well with any and all clothing choices. Simply a classic, and it sits so well on the wrist. As was pointed out by M, you can switch back and forth between straps and bracelet, depending on the season or function.
In any event, best of luck and congratulations on the impending wedding!
Warmest regards,
-jbbb

Congratulations, and welcome to the forum. :)

I recommend the Superocean. It's a proven champ and it will feel at home in any situation.
After all, it's been at the top of its game for over fifty years, and it will never go out of style.

Either the Superocean or the Colt GMT will give you years of sterling service, and will always
look fresh and up-to-date. It's your call; you'll love either one. Good luck.

Steve

Definitely the chrono SO. No question. Its a baby super avenger, and one of the best looking watches in the lineup. I can assure you it will stand the test of time. Its basically a colt with a chronograph.

After going to the AD at lunch I tried on both again and I feel that the Chrono superocean just doesn't sit well on my wrist. the Colt feels great.

They did have a Omega Planet ocean also, Now i need to decide if the Colt is better than that.

any thoughts?

While I appreciate the Omeags (I have a couple in my collection), I simply do not like the PO over the Colt. Omega has garnered a poor after sales reputation in the past couple of years, as well, if that helps.
Does it look nice? Yep. Would I purchase a PO over ANY Breitling? Nope. But, that's simply my personal thought.

I think that the Colt is more of a classic look over the SO, but......

if I were looking for a timeless Breitling (and budget allows) I'd go Cockpit - especially if you can find one at an AD from before this year's facelift.

Personally I'd go with the standard SO over the Chrono SO and Colt. The SO is a classic in it's own right and will undoubtedly stand the test of time. Or even the Steelfish if you wanted something a little larger.

But if you are insistant on a choice between the CSO and the Colt, then I'd probably say Colt.

You HAVE to go into an AD and try a few on. There will be more than one that speaks to you... one will be screaming though, that's the one you go with.

I reckon you only need to look at Manchester24s Chrono Colt to have all you need:

http://breitlingsource.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4111

Lovely classic look, small (ish) and goes well with a wool suit or a diving suit!

Or

An Aerospace:

http://breitlingsource.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2713

If you fancy something unmistakeable. Still water resiatant to 100M - slim, light & a good choice of finish/dial etc

Whatever you go for - as long as it starts with "B", ends in "g" and has "reitlin" in the middle - you can't go wrong.

Have fun deciding - you've got a bit of time - but try on whatever you decide to buy (several times) as they are different in the flesh.

Enjoy!

Your answer is right there. You tried them both, you liked one better than the other. You can't go wrong with either of them - they are both great watches. Personally I'd go for the Chrono SO, but that's me and my monkey wrists. And you can have all bracelet/leather/rubber options on both watches.

But, and it's a big one, the watch is for YOU. You should get what YOU like, not what you think others would like (and certainly not what people on a forum who you'll probably never meet in person). As said - they are both great so you can't chose the "wrong" one. If someone ever disrespects you because you chose a certain model in favor of another, it just shows their lack of social skills and understanding.

Regardding the Omega, that's also a very nice watch, personally I go for Breitling (almost) every day, but still - if the PO talks to you more than the Colt you know what you should do...

And of course, welcome to the forum and a congratulations to the upcoming marriage! Best of luck!
