...curious...I see these from time to time for a decent price (if they are really decent watches when compared to today)...they are cousin to the UDT from Chronosport and made famous by special forces in real life as well as in the movies...

I believe the quartz engine for them is no longer available but see from an earlier post by Roff that they are available from certain Citizen donor watches...

knowing this, would you buy one today???

...are they a hard use "tool" type watch or would you consider it too delicate in terms of the older type quartz movement???

...any thoughts you'd care to share would be appreciated...

I wore a Pluton for 20 years. When it stopped working last year, and BUSA said they couldn't work on it anymore due to lack of parts, I reluctantly gave up and sold it for a mere pittance. If you can get your hands on replacement movements, seals, gaskets and other service parts, and you can find someone who will work on it, or do it yourself, go for it. Otherwise, I'd find something that still has parts available. I replaced my Pluton with an early Aerospace... even the old ones can still be serviced.

Great, reliable, watch to wear and takes about 5 minutes to find a donor watch movement when needed. I usually have a couple spares in my watch junk drawer just in case. I picked up an Intruder last week with a blinking and clinking digital display and sent it off to my watchmaker with a donor Seiko ($25) for him to swap out. Only takes him a couple of minutes and he transfers the back plate of the movement so the Breitling decal/name stays on the movement so it looks exactly the same.

thank you for both sides of the question...trying to decide if the $800 or so USC is worth it or just find another watch...haven't seen many with box, papers or bracelet but many in very nice condition with a strap albeit aftermarket...

I appreciate your responses...
