Hi guys

My mother-in-law is buying me a watch as a wedding gift. I went to AD in NJ and fell in love with blue dial SOH. However, I am now considering SA as well. Which one should I buy as my very first breitling?

I am also considering omega seamaster aqua terra and planet ocean.

what do u think?

Both beautiful but both opposite ends of the scale

SOH will be more of a dress watch in comparison to the SA

I have a SA on order myself.....so I am trying not to be bias. But I am buying it with the understanding it'll be my special occassion watch....not for every day use at work etc under cuff

thanx for the info guys. I want something for everyday so I guess SA is kinda too big for work. I'm a junior associate in a law firm and i need something that is appropriate looking as well as professional.

I wear my SAers everyday but they are a very big and a heavy watch, I also have a navitimer world which is a great watch also

I have both. The SOH, while not a dress watch, is more business friendly on mesh or a croc strap. Tough decision as they are both fantastic.

If you have a bigger wrist, the Super Avenger will look much, much better than most watches because it is more proportional. But it is a big and heavy watch, as people have noted. It is not just big in width, but also height (you'll first find it strange but quickly adapt). It makes a strong presence and, if you have a bigger wrist, will look as professional as anything. If you have a smaller wrist, then the 44mm Chronomat may be a better choice if you want the SA-style chronographs. Also keep in mind the SA does not have pushers you can screw in to lock...if you are in water a lot, this is a consideration as accidental chronograph engagement in water can be bad (and $$$$). If you haven't already, check out the Chronomat models as well. The Chronomats have the Pilot Bracelet, where as the SA has the Pro 2, so it is a slightly different look. Both bracelets are among the best in the industry IMO.

You will also want to get a Bergeon 6767-F Spring Bar Tool so that you can change bands. Breitling straps are excellent. There are also many custom options of exceptional quality for leather straps. Having a few different straps to compliment with the bracelet can be nice. I have straps made from carbon fiber, nylon, cow, ostrich, python, lizard, croc, and shark, to name a few.

Have a look at the Avenger as well... 4mm smaller than the Super Avenger, but otherwise plain.

You can't go wrong with any of them... my advice would be though to turn up in your suit after work and try them on in the clothes you'll be wearing them with. Some watches are great for a suit... goodluck fitting the SA under your cuff though!

As a lawyer who has practiced a few years, a piece of advice would be to guage the partners' interest in watches. If he/she/they all wear conservative thin watches, then I would leave the SA at home. At the first firm I worked at, the partners were the only ones allowed to have or wear any "bling". The associates were judged not only in their work, but in any type of personal choices that were made. Just a gratuitous heads-up. Congratulations and best of luck.

I'd go SOH or Aqua Terra 8500 (excellent versatility dress and sporty) out of your choices.. The SA is a monstrous shiny polished watch that will get a ton of attention no matter what you are doing or where you are going.

My two watches are a Seawolf, and Bentley, but I did have a SA. I have a larger wrist and for every day use the 45mm Seawolf is definitely much better. If your wrist is under 8" I would go 44-46mm.
