Also, and idea of how to test it without FAA helicopters landing on my roof would also be helpful.. :o

Any radio able to tune 121.500 can be used to test its functionality. Press the test button underneath with a pen or a pin and listen out on 121.500, you should be able to hear the distress signal. Don´t worry about triggering any rescue services, as the range is very limited without unscrewing the antenna.

Brilliant! I just read the above. So that would mean I can test the watch whilst flying by listening out on 121.5?! I saw this because I do not have a tester!

I've said it before, but I love buying wtahces without B&P - less competition and better prices and I have never yet felt a desire to go out with an instruction book strapped to my wrist. Market says thta pieces will sell for less without B&P, but GBP1,000 - 1,500 discount is unrealistic, even for Emergency where the box is more significant. The tester would bother me, but ultimately you'll be able to get the watch for less without it.

But you do not need the tester to test the function of the ELT. If you press the button on the back with a sharp object, the alarm indicator on the LCD at the front flashes every 2.25 sec if the transmitter functions properly!

Of course! If you have a ppl. Wouldn't recommend trying it when commuting with a commercial airline
