My new to me ( preloved ) but around 1 year old watch appears to be losing 6 secs in 24 hrs.

I syncronised the second hand at 10.30 am Sat set against the mobile phone clock I checked at 9.30 today and it was 6 seconds behind. It was left face up , flat.
I did read the post about methods of self regulating by resting the watch in different positions.
I understand that flat face up is how to get it to gain

COSC specs say within -4/+6 per 24 hours so it would appear to be a tad slow.
Try it in other positions and see what it averages at.
What is the performance like while you are wearing it?
Accuracy will vary slightly in different positions.

If it's minus 6 in horizontal positions then it's going to lose more in vertical positions so that won't help. Dial down may, but likely not significant. If it's consistent then a simple regulation can address it.

Just to add to this and see if anyone has any other comments, my Windrider Chronomat (1994) appears to be losing 15 seconds per day

I set it to the online speaking clock at 8pm, put it back in its travel case, making sure it's wound up, and the next evening it reads between 10 and 15
secs slower? It was serviced a couple of years ago but does it need regulating? And how much is that?

If it's consistent then it likely is a regulation - an AD will likely change $20 or $30 for a quick one, may be a bit more if they are going to do it properly with testing over a period of time in multiple positions and the options to get it checked again after a week.

He already said that it's a 94 piece serviced 2 years ago.

Umm...not seeing that? (the OP does not say anywhere it is a 94 model...the person who said that was not the OP...)

The person who revived the thread after a month said it and it seemed fair to assume that was what you were replying to.

I edited it because I ran through the thread a few times and the OPs posts only to realize that must have been it. I realize I occasionally miss something and I appreciate you pointing it out to me, but it seemed you had fully answered the second poster's question so there really wasn't much for me to add to that other than perhaps a "go team!"

And tonight the Windrider only lost 3 seconds

The difference was, it's been on my wrist all day. I've also read that if the watch rests crown up or crown down this has an effect on the timing? Is this true?

Anyway, I'll now make sure it rests in its case face up and maybe it will start showing its true timing

OK, so it's inconsistent so a regulation isn't necessary. Regulation is really designed to offset all of the inherent errors that are going to occur to get to net zero, but different use will generate different results. As you note different positions generate different rate results and as a general rule it will run slower rested crown up than on its back.
