I just got this stopwatch from my grandmom. It was a gift to my granddad in 1964 from the soccorclub he trained when they became the country's champion that year.
On the back u can see the engraving of the soccorclubs initials, and the year 1964. No other markings what so ever.
The front tells its a 1/5 stopwatch from breitling. But nothing more.
As to be seen on the pictures, the 1 hour dail is devided into sports. 45minutes for soccor, 20 minutes for ice skating, 35 minutes for hockey and 7 minutes for swimming. Since these are sports quite common in the Netherlands I guess it was for the dutch market only?

The stopwatch is also in the box of a jewelry from that area in that time. Knowing my granddad the watch has been in the drawer all those years.

Can someone please tell me more about this watch? I searched the internet but can't find one with the same dail.
Last thing, the watch works perfectly. But is it good to have it checked after? When I bought my watch (omega speedmaster pro, sorry for that..) they told me it would be good every 5 years to have in smeared.

Here some pictures:

Welcome to BreitlingSource.

It definitely needs a service if you plan to use it - any oil in there would long ago have dried up. Member vintage (Paul) is our resident stopwatch expert. He generally stops by every few days so will likely comment then.

The seven minute mark is for one quarter of a water polo match (not so common in Netherlands, I think).

The twenty minute mark is for one period of ice hockey (also not a strong Netherlands sport).

The thirty-five minute mark is for field hockey - and the Netherlands men's and women's teams are powerhouses.

The forty-five minute mark, of course, is for football/soccer, the World Cup for which the Netherlands will one day win and I hope in my lifetime.

Hoop Holland!

I'm not a stop watch guy (I had one years ago that was lifted in a home invasion along with ALL of my wife's jewelry), but that one is super cool!

Thanks all! Indeed it looks quite cool. I wish it was a watch instead of a stopwatch so I would have more use for it.

Maybe I'm just to dutch, never thought of the ice skate being for ice hockey. Indeed no common dutch sport. As for the dutch soccor team, I had some hope after the last world cup, but after last euro cup I have lost it all :)

I will wait for "vintage" as of what he has to say about it. Thanks for the comments this far.
