That's the "chimney", and it is part of the case, my Avenger Seawolf has several chimney dents. It was noted on service trip to BUSA and it took me hours of googling to figure out what the heck the term "chimney" meant as referenced on my service estimate sheet.

Learn something new everyday.

When you think of it, the case is there to protect the beauty that is inside. If you want it to be perfect you can't enjoy it. I am a perfectionist and it was hard for me to stomach my first ding, then the second, third, etc.. My AR coating has a couple of scratches which sometimes you see sometimes you don't. BUSA quoted $320 to replace the crystal when it was in the last service and I said to myself, why bother? It is just going to get scratched again.

Did BUSA repair the dents or replace the case? Or did you just leave it like that? If they replaced/repaired it, what was the cost?

@Roffensian

I took it to my AD, and they were saying that because its so deep, the crystal had to be removed, which made it a lot more complicated. I didnt want to pay a lot of money since it doesnt bother me that much. If they can take care of it during its first service that would be good enough.

RJRJRJ:

Sorry it took so long to reply back.

I did not get it fixed from BUSA as there is no way to fix the dents, they are just like yours and the only real fix is to replace the case which can be done but it is a major cost. I have battle scars everywhere on my Avenger Seawolf(titanium is soft) but I love my watch. I asked BUSA how much to replace the crystal last service call because of course the AR was scratched and they said $320. Ouch. Maybe when I have the watch for a couple decades and a bucket of disposable cash, I will have BUSA replace case and crystal, for sentimental sake. The cost would be almost as much as a new one. When you think about it though who cares?, If I get it fixed it will just happen again. I am not gonna put my watch in storage, I am gonna enjoy it right? This watch cost more than my first car I purchased when I was sixteen, and I intend to enjoy it. My first car was a 1984 ford escort with 90k, I got it for $1200. My Seawolf cost me $2000 with my ocean racer strap.

This is the most depressing thread, you'd think that breitling would have the sense to make such an elevated (and therefore scratch-prone) part replaceable at least, or give it a replaceable steel cosmetic cover.

Anyone have any luck with these dings at a service centre?

E: Didn't see the date there, still discussions about this issue are hard to come by.

More parts = more $$$. You start getting into issues like water resistance, and it can get hairy pretty quickly.

Since the thread started, I found a video on the japanese breitling site and it shows them remove the crystal, and grind the chimney down to remove dents.

Hiya, several people have mentioned the japanese web site as being better, would it be possible to post the link if you still have it please?

This is the main website, but I can't work out where the videos are: http://www.breitling.co.jp/

And yes, I also do the 'Breitling walk', with my hand behind me to protect it when walking near to a wall, lol!

And I thought that I was the only one practicing it.

Now I know that I'm not alone. :D
