Hi guys wonder if someone can shed a bit of light on my problem. I have an Intruder and a few days ago I noticed that the day was the wrong day on the LCD display. So I changed it but the actual date kept changing at midday not midnight, so I thought no problems will remember to change the date in the morning. But now the LCD is playing up, the date keeps changing randomly when I try to change it, and the buttons aren't working as they should, ie the left had button doesn't always take the watch out of adjust mode, and sometimes I can't advance the day past Thursday etc, and the numbers are jumping randomly or not adjusting at all. Do you think this is a battery problem, or is the LCD on the way out, the actual watch keeps excellent time, but the LCD is annoying me.

Because of the age of the watch, if it needs some repairs etc can anyone recommend an independent specialist I can sen it to.

Edit I'm in South Wales, UK

It could be the battery as I'm not sure if the Intruder had an EOL indicator - probably not considering it's age. A battery change sounds like your first port of call.

If it's not that then it certainly does sound like something is on the way out - LCD or more likely the circuitboard. It could even be that the battery has leaked which would certainly screw up the insides.

The big issue you have with repairs (if it's not just a duff battery) is getting hold of parts. Breitling will almost certainly not have any left given the age of the Intruder. This generally means scouring the net (i.e. eBay and posting WTB ads in sales forums like we have here) for a donar watch or movement.

But as I say, best starting point would be to get a decent watchmaker to open it up to ascertain the reason - battery or otherwise.
