So, my pops is a avid admirer of Breitlings. Problem is, he is older and has very small thin wrists. I have been looking through the new catalog and only see a few that are 41mm or under. I pointed out the Monobrilliant limited to him but he likes the black faces, and chronographs to so that throws the colts out of the line. He doesn’t really care for the black ring on the Oceans either.

So, fellow connoisseurs. What previous versions would meet this criteria? Chronograph, 40mm or under, black or at least dark face.

If I can find a model that fulfills these requirements then I can start searching unless anyone knows of any leads.

well, with 38mm the original Montbrillant A41330 comes to mind, available (and pretty) in black,

as do the Navitimer 92 (1992 to 1996),
http://www.breitlingsource.com/watch_de ... r_172.html

the Navitimer Airborne (1995-97)
http://www.breitlingsource.com/watch_de ... er_94.html

and the Navitimer Premier (available in a date version too)

the only one you might find new is the a41330, but nice preowned pieces of the others are quite easy to find.

How about a vintage Top Time? You can find them in 36 and 38mm, black faced chronos. The ultimate classic Breitling look. Mine below is white faced you can find them easily enough with black.

Loads of alternatives.
In addition to what has already been suggested from used options:

1. Premier, 38mm, pictured here in white/champagne but also comes in black.

2. The bigger sibling, Grand Premier, 40mm.

3. Colt Ocean Automatic, 38mm.

4. Chronomat, 40mm.

5. Last but not least if you are looking for a new offering, there is the 41mm version of this:

I think the non-B01 equipped Navitimer could make the list. It technically comes in at 41.8mm, but I personally think the black dialed versions wear smaller than that. I'm sure there are dealers that still have some in stock, even though it has been discontinued. I believe the model reference is a23322.
