It was around that time, but not all models at the same time so some start earlier than others. I've seen some earlier than that.

My '98 1461 is dateless as well, though being able to date it to its first year of production - non-COSC- leaves the week of manufacture a bit meaningless.

Earliest coding between lugs on the case is 2000. Earliest bracelet codes on or near the end links is 1998. At least that's been my experience based on approximately 30 examples I've seen from mid-90's to around 2004. :? As Roff said, not all models had the engraving when dating began back then....
Best,
Ron

That's a sweet combo. Come on, Breitling...look at that. You see where you've come from, and where you are now. Reset the compass and get back to where you once belonged.

When I asked BUK to date my watch from the serial number they told me it was manufactured 2010. Then when the strap was removed I found that it read 0409, ie late-Jan 2009. When I queried the discrepancy - not that I was very excitable about the difference, I was just curious - they told me that 0409 was when the batch of cases was manufactured but not when the watch itself was assembled. Hmmm. Anyone else heard that variant on the meaning of the lug stamp?

Never heard of that before, but possible I guess. Serial numbers aren't logical anymore so the consumer can't use them to date the watch but I am sure that ADs have access to Breitling internal information.

Sorry to resurrect such an old tread but I couldn't find an answer for a question...

I'm looking at a Steelfish a17390 and the seller told me he did not know the age of the watch. I then asked him to check the numbers in between the lugs - learned it here on this forum! Thanks - but he said the watch had come with a rubber strap and according to Breitling the engraving is only used on watches that come with the bracelet. Of course, I understand not marking the rubber strap but the case?
Is that correct?

No.

All cases are date engraved (subject to the earlier discussion in this thread around when that started).

Yes, that makes sense. I doubt Breitling produces different cases for straps and bracelets.
I pulled the plug on that one as I lost confidence in the seller - not from this forum by the way.
Thanks for the quick reply by the way.

My colt GMT has a code with 02 in it. Assuming that means it's an 02 watch? Older than the seller told me it was! When did they start producing the colt GMT?

Original Colt GMT was introduced in 2005. Assume the 02 is the start of the code which would be week 2 of the year.
