I have been looking forward to seeing the 42mm SOH. Maybe it's Fred's influence, but I'm really getting into the classic look these days.

Sorry for that Scott
42mm seems like a great compromise size, really.

If only they could it on a decent bracelet.

I'd like to see it on a proper bracelet as well, although I do think the SOH is the one Breitling where the mesh actually works, since the whole look is retro.

for us "classic" guys the mesh is the only right SOH bracelet choice, the original 1957 SuperOcean and SuperOcean Chronographs came on a nice mesh w/ rounded ends.

Goodness Fred, no need to apologize. Just a simple matter of having my eyes opened in a different (and quite attractive) direction. Classic, or the classic look in more recent metal, is a great direction now that either 1)many of the new models aren't doing it for me, and 2) the ones which do are marching up the ladder in price. It may be a while before I can do anything about it, but I'm intrigued.

Is it my imagination, or do the ends of the bracelets in those ads conform to the case, as opposed to sitting apart from it, as on the current SOH? Typically, I prefer the conforming look, but the end rods on the current mesh are pretty distinctive in and of themselves.

Edit:

Or maybe that's what you meant by "rounded ends."

yes, for the lack of a better word. the 57 mesh "hugged" the round case in an arc,; conforming, if you wish.

Now that makes me wonder, did vintage Transoceans come on a mesh bracelet, as well? I did a cursory search and didn't find any on mesh, but I'm wondering if that's Breitling's justification for only offering the new TO/TOC on mesh and straps, same as the SOH.

Vintage TransOcean chronographs had no similarities with the current TOC, it is based on the design of the TopTime ref. 810 (mid 1960s, no mesh or bracelet afaik), the first TransOcean Chronographs (late 1960s) actually came with integrated bracelets.

the TOC ancestor in design, TopTime ref. 810

the TOC ancestor in name, TransOcean ref. 2119/2129 and 7102

All the more reason for them to give the TOC a proper bracelet (and not the Pro 3, as has been speculated elsewhere).
