My family and i went to the museum attached to an airforce base near home (Fighter World in Williamtown, NSW, Australia). We expected it to be pretty small and hokey but in fact it was great for a regional base. They had a couple of hangers. Below is the view of one. You can see a Vampire in the foreground to the left, a Hawker straight on and a pair of Mirages.

Some pretty cool planes. Below is a modified two seater Mirage.

This shot has a Macchi, a hawker and in the back you can see the tailing of a mirage.

They had a Mig.

This is me with three of the kids (James, Sophia and the baby, Tom). My watch of choice today was the Cossie.

All in all, a fun day!

"Fighter World"! What an awesome name for the place! Looks like a pretty cool day out too. Looks like you might have a couple of budding fighter pilots there Nov!

Very nice trip. Haven't seen any Hunters (Hawker is the company that made them) in a while and great to be able to get that close.

Nice pics, thanks for sharing.

It's always with quite some emotion that I see Vampires and Hunters. The Swiss Air Force have flown them extensively, especially the latter. It was the Air Force that used them the longest and enthusiasts from all over the world were coming to Switzerland to see the "survivors", with Brits being the majority.

Nowadays, there are still 7 flying in Switzerland, with a civil registration, out of a total of 160. Three are based at Payerne Air Force Base and former astronaut Claude Nicollier is one of the pilots, others fly out of Sion Air Base. They are regularly seen in Air Shows in Switzerland and around Europe.

Several others were sold to England, Canada or the US. The Hawker Hunter has also been used by the Swiss Demo Team, before the current Tigers.
