Not a bad article with great photos from a Breitling factory visit published on TZ.
Interesting to see Breitling annual production quoted at 150,000 watches with around 40K with the in-house movements.
I thought it would be a bit more than that.

It used to be.

Breitling don't publish production numbers, but COSC does release the number of movements that they certify by brand and as all Breitlings are COSC we can deduce the numbers.

In 2008 it was over 200k, but then dropped with the economy to about 108k in 2009 and 122k in 2010. 2011 numbers will be available later in the summer.

Breitling has quoted the 40,000 before as the number of in house movements produced in 2011, and they originally stated capacity of 50,000 - although that was when the movement was first launched and may have increased now.

Nice link :lingsrock:

I'd love to take that tour, I think it would be fascinating. Maybe if we get a group together we can arrange something. Who wants to come to Switzerland?

Though I love alphorns but they're loud -- I can't imagine listening to one being played indoors.

I was gonna post this and Wessa beat me to it!

Great article though. Must've been a nice trip. Great experience as well.

"Most watch firms have a design department that deals with the look of the watches and a marketing department that handles all the retail and advertising images. Breitling has both functions handled by one person, Theodore (Teddy) Schneider, the owner of the company and so retains a consistent image."

There is the man we have spent so much time discussing over the past few years regarding the loss of Breitling's design heritage.

Funny that, I had similar thoughts going through my mind as I was reading this but I did not mention it here as it involved a few four letter words and we are not allowed to use them in this forum :-)

I'm already here (ZH) and wouldn't mind joining in or helping with organization if need be.

F14D_Tomcat is here also. If we get a few more, maybe we'll have enough to convince Breitling to roll out the red carpet.

Yeah, he told me that, somewhere around lac léman, right?

I think it's a great idea! Maybe we should do a new thread for that to inquire into the general interest

Hmm...we might also have to stop slagging off their designs so much.

I think it's time for Teddy to find a new job.

In that case, there's no hope.

Needless to say that I'm in guys. I even know a journalist who's responsible for their PR, I can contact him if there is a general interest.
