Well...back from the course and happy to say that today was another consistent day on the greens...shot a 94...SA stayed home and wore my 1987 High School Graduation present instead...

As previous posters mentioned this topic has been covered with research provided, but to me it's that you want to wear a SA which I would be against. The comfort itself would stop me, whereas having a smaller watch (for me it would be my Navi World) on a rubber strap makes it lightweight and comfortable.

Thanks Gents, did some digging and found some older posts from last year that cover the topic quite well. Will definitely do a thorough search on the forum in the future before posting discussion topics.

There have been a number of golf and watch discussions over the years here. It's not recommended, and while it will be fine in most cases the forces involved are certainly capable of damaging the watch. If you have to wear a watch to golf then stick to quartz or a Jaermann & Stubi - http://www.jaermann-stuebi.com/

Do you think a watch like that would be good for fishing also? I always get worried about wearing a nice watch given the wrist movement when casting. Also paranoid that a watch that costs thousands would fly off, which is why I bought the G-shock - if $100 flys off somehow, then I most likely wont lose sleep over it.

I'm learning all the time about the high-end watch world (without wishing to provoke that definitional debate again) and I'm absolutely dumbfounded to learn that swinging an arm, however suddenly, would be an issue with a mechanical watch. Everyone knows a quartz is more robust in terms of actual knocks, but it never occurred to me that human movement was an issue!

It's not the swinging of the wrist, it's the impact of the club - especially if you aren't a great golfer and hit the less forgiving ground rather than the ball!

Does anyone know how fast the hands are moving during a golf swing? How fast they stop? How much energy is transfered to the hands upon impact?

Not saying golf is the best thing for watches...it's not...and better safe than sorry. But you would be surprised.

I wouldn't think of wearing my Ling to play golf! I just wear one of the 15 balance bracelets I got for Christmas on my right arm.

I've been playing golf with a mechanical watch on for nearly 20yrs. Never had a problem.
